As my gaze lingered on my Angel again, I pondered his words.

The Syndicate did everything they could to protect omegas. But certain factions within it, like the ones Annaleise led, wanted omegas to rule, eliminate betas, and subjugate alphas.

I’d only found out about this several weeks ago.

As a whole, the Syndicate did good things in our area. That was the reason we assisted them with their finances and investments.

But I wasn’t here to sit back and watch betas get murdered, or omegas being used as pawns to push their agenda.

I gathered Lexi into my arms, unable to resist burying my nose in her hair the moment I had her against my chest. She still smelled the same. Ten years later, my body still recognized her, and her scent called me.

“Get the car. I want to get the fuck out of here.”

Cormac slid into the driver’s seat and brought the car over.

“Miko sit in the front,” I ordered.

Miko narrowed his eyes as he glared at me. “Why? I’ll sit in the back with you and Robin.”

I shook my head. “No. Stop calling her Robin. Her name is Alexis. Now do what I say and no more questioning, or you’ll have trouble sitting for a week.”

Grumbling under his breath, Miko reluctantly complied with my orders and opened the front passenger door before sliding into the seat.

Mio Dio,he was pain in the ass.

Somehow I knew Alexis was going to be even more difficult.

As I carefully got into the car with her in my arms, I couldn't help but let the past fill my thoughts. The last time I saw her, I’d known I had to break her.

But I had to kill myself in the process.

Ten years earlier

“Do you hear me, Antonio Cavalori?” Uncle growled as he grabbed me by the shirt and shoved me against the wall. “You will come back to the family, and you will respect your elders. Now go. We have a moving company that will be here to clear out all your shit within the hour.”

He released me and wiped his hands on his pants as if he were disgusted by just touching my shirt. “Go,” he roared after a small moment of silence.

I turned my back on him and scrambled into my room. I quickly threw everything into the bags he brought and wondered how I was going to tell Alexis where I was going.

The simple truth was there was nothing I could do. My uncle wouldn’t let me see her before we left.

But I had to get some sort of message to her.

She was my mate. I knew it in my soul. I couldn’t just abandon her.

Alexis,

I love you more than anything in this world. I will be back for you, I promise. I can’t explain where I’m going but know you’ll always be my heart.

Te amo, Tesoro.

Forever

A

I signed it with a simple A, folded it, and placed it under the floorboard where Alexis knew I kept things hidden.

I only hoped that she would look there when she saw everything gone.
