I shuddered, thinking that two horrible people could bring an innocent child into this world. "Protect the child, and bring Lenora to me." I thought about it. "Better yet, have Luca and Roberto speak to her once you find her. I think they’re invested in this because of Amelia.”

Miko inclined his head. "We'll take care of this and be free soon enough."

His words echoed in my head as we all settled in for sleep. Alexis was snuggled between Cormac and Miko while I rested on the edge of the bed with my leg propped up on several pillows. I traced the incisions from the surgery, knowing they'd scar. I'd thought the injury was worth it because we had killed Annaleise.

Knowing she was alive made me think that night was in vain.

I closed my eyes, but sleep refused to take me, and I tossed and turned all night. Finally, Alexis crawled over Cormac to settle into my side. "Time for sleep," she murmured as she laid her head down in my shoulder. Her hand rested over my heart.

"Thank you,Tesoro." I kissed the top of her head and finally relaxed enough to let my mind wander off to sleep.

The next day, we were eating breakfast at the dining room table when Miko slammed his palm down on the table after pulling his chiming phone from his pocket.

"Jesus Christ, Miko," Cormac shot him a powerful glarel that if looks could kill, he'd be a dead alpha.

"We got her." Miko grinned triumphantly.

"What about the kid?" I eyed Alexis carefully as I asked the question. I had yet to tell her about Allegro and Lenora's child. I wanted to make it a surprise and see how she reacted.

"A bit worse for wear, but she's okay. She's recovering from an infection, and they have her sedated while treating her." Miko's eyes danced over the phone screen, his finger scrolling up.

Steel blue eyes collided with mine. "Care to explain what you mean by ‘child’?" She crossed her arms over her chest and prepared for battle. God, this woman was a handful, and I loved every moment.

"We discovered Allegro and Lenora have a child. Three years old. I pray that she wasn't abused too much by her shithead parents." It enraged me that an innocent child was involved in this. It wasn't her fault who her parents were. I'd ensure that she was given the best care.

"Poor baby." She placed a hand over her mouth, tears swimming in her bright eyes. "What's going to happen to her?"

"We're not sure yet," I answered truthfully, although I knew what Iwantedto have happen to her. I just hoped the child was in good mental and physical health; otherwise my plan would take longer.

She pursed her lips, accepting my answer, but I knew this wouldn't be the end of it.

If things worked out as I hoped, that little girl would come home with us.

Istood beside Luca as Roberto questioned Lenora. Blood was splattered across the walls, dripping steadily toward the drain in the center of the room. The cold air was stagnant, cooper permeating the entire room.

After they picked her up, I met them at our newest safe house. The only ones who knew our location were the twins, Cormac, Antonio, Alexis, and myself. They were the only ones we trusted until we could get to the bottom of this.

"Where is he, Lenny?" Roberto tried switching back to the sweet and caring twin. It was an act; Lenny could see through that, but maybe she was delusional enough to go along with it. "We just want to talk to him."

Lenora moaned and shook her head. "No, I ain't tellin' you nofin'." Her cockney accent set my teeth on edge. Every time she spoke, it was like nails dragging down a chalkboard.

"We need to find him. He has your little girl."

It was a blatant lie, but Lenora was too drugged when we picked her up to realize if we were lying.

Her brow furrowed. "Lilly?" She breathed, recognition lighting up her previously lifeless eyes.

"Yes," I growled, slamming my hands down on the table. "Your daughter. The one you left malnourished and thirsty after going on a bender."

"No," she wailed. "I'm a good mum. I love me daughter."

"If you were a good mother, you'd tell us where her father was so he won't be able to abuse her anymore." I was betting it all on black, hoping I'd be lucky when the ball landed.

"I don't know." She shook her head. Her movements were sluggish and exaggerated. I would never understand how someone could leave their child while they decided to get high.
