Tears rolled down her cheeks. “It’s my mess, Aslan. I did this. Give me the chance to fix it.”

“But—”

“Go.” She shoved me. “Go now. Please, just run.”

The door handle wriggled, crunching against the top of the chair. “Open up,” a police officer yelled.

My heart raced. Another wave of nausea.

I glanced back at poor Jack sprawled on the floor.

He didn’t deserve this.

None of them did.

I’d done this.

I’d done this because I was my father’s fucking son.

Neri pushed me harder. “Go. Get out. Run!”

Something heavy smashed against the door, trying to dislodge the chair.

“Run,” she hissed. “If you don’t fucking run, Aslan, I swear on my life, I’ll follow you to Turkey and find you if you get deported.”

Rage burned hotly. “You know why you can’t—”

“RUN!”

Fighting every instinct not to leave her, I drank in her fire, her ferocity, and fell so damn hard for the girl who fought so vehemently for me.

She’d chosen me.

Over her father.

Over her family.

Snatching her around the nape, I pressed a feral kiss to her mouth, fed her all my feelings, then threw myself out the ground-floor window.

I landed in the narrow vegetable garden ringing the pool.

“Go!” Neri whisper-screamed. “Run!”

I spun and looked at her one last time.

Her door shot open as two male cops spilled into her bedroom.

Our eyes caught.

My heart broke.

I ran.
