“Robin.” His handsome, tanned face goes ghost white as he looks at the glorious mother-to-be.

“Soren! Welcome home!” She laughs a bit awkwardly and moves to hug him. He stays stiff, and my new bestie spidey senses tingle. Somethings off with these two long-time family friends. This guy is the legendary Soren I hear my fiancé rattle on about literally every day. His best friend.

The room is loud and no longer interested in the subtle talk between the two, but I stay glued, staring like a detective opening a new case.

I wish I could hear what they say to each other, but it’s not long before Soren storms out.

Again, suspicious. He walked in like he owned the place, then sneaks out without a goodbye or even a hello to his best friend. Does Milo know something?

My questions fade to concern when Robin turns with tears in her eyes.

“No.”My chest tightens.

“No what, Cherub? Here, try this delicious cupcake. I was thinking we could ask the baker to make our wedding cake,” Milo says, coming over to me.

Goosebumps rise across my skin as my brain makes assumptions I pray aren’t true.

“Nothing, my love.”

With betrayal already sitting heavy on my shoulders, I take the bite of cupcake, knowing I needed to talk to Robin immediately.

The End
