“You smell like sex.”
“I’m ready to go,” I say casually.
“Not so fast,” he replies, pulling me back to him. “Do you have something to tell us?”
“Nope,” I add innocently, and Nico watches on, amused.
“I’m sure we could get it out of you,” Sawyer adds, stalking toward me with heat in his eyes, and my whole body flushes. Apparently having three men surrounding you will do that to a girl. I debate playing chicken for a second, an insatiable need inside of me willing me to let them show me exactly how, but we are still at the compound. I’d much rather take this home...
“Okay, okay,” I grin, hands up in surrender. “Nico is in.”
Sawyer grins, holding his fist out for a bump from Nico as Ezra claps him on the shoulder.
“Finally,” Sawyer sighs.Men.I roll my eyes at their casualness of adding a third guy to our team, but secretly feel all fuzzy inside at their easy acceptance.
“Nico, you wanna come back with us?”
“I’d love to, baby.” Him calling me baby fills me with warmth, and I remember the time I thought he’d slipped up by calling me that. “I’ll meet you there in an hour?”
My phone rings as I nod and follow the guys toward the exit. Pulling it out of my bag, I see Fleur’s name flashing on the screen.
“Hey!” I haven’t spoken to her in a while, so I’m glad to hear from her now.
“Hey, girl,” she replies sunnily. “How are you doing?”
“Not bad, how are you? How’s the baby?”
“We’re good. Lee swears he can see a bump already, but I’m pretty sure he’s imagining it.” I grin at her happy tone.
“Send me a picture and I’ll decide.”
“How about I show you in person?”
“I’d love that!” I really would. Even with everything else going on, I’ll make time for Fleur.
“Good! Something to look forward to, at least,” she says, sounding less happy than when this call started.
“Is everything okay?”
“Yeah. Being unemployed and alone in a new city is just... boring.”
“Why are you alone?” I ask with a frown.
“Technically, I’m not, but it feels like I barely see Lee, and obviously, I don’t know anyone here yet.”
“Where’s Lee?”
“He works a lot,” she says, but doesn’t explain any further.
“Are you sure everything’s okay, Fleur?”
She sighs, and I stop outside the car, letting the guys climb in so I have some privacy.
“Yeah, it’s fine. I just thought this was a fresh start, you know? For me and Lee.”
“And...?”
“And he’s the same. Still having secret conversations on the phone, still leaving abruptly with no explanation to where he’s going.” God, I could punch him for her deflated tone alone.
