She leaned toward him and fell the last few inches, catching herself with her hands on his chest. “Oops.”

He smiled and leaned up, nipping her chin. “Points for enthusiasm.”

She blushed and kissed him, seeing the liquid metal of half her face reflected in his eyes. She forgot what she looked like. It didn’t matter to Amadine, and the crew at Z-Corp just wanted to check on her internal repair. No one else looked.

Her wrist buzzed, and she jerked back. “Sorry. I have a call.”

He smiled. “I know the drill. I usually get called for idiots hiking during an avalanche.”

She got off the couch and opened her com. “Yah?”

Her dispatcher said, “There is a cruiser stolen, and one of the Uraddan refugees was seen being carried onto the ship.”

She walked over to Titan and said, “I will be moving in five minutes. Send me the coordinates and the image of who I am collecting. I am on my way.”

Geero walked over to her and watched her swing into the suit. “I would give you a kiss for luck, but I don’t think you need it.”

She smiled as she situated her arms and legs, feeling the metal wrap around her. “Thanks for the thought, but a friend has been taken. I should be back in four hours or so if you are still here.”

He nodded. “I will stay with Amadine unless I am called away.”

She looked at him as the chest closure sealed her in. Titan’s voice murmured, “Thank you. I worry.”

Geero stepped back, and she turned to leave the house. She felt a slap on her ass and turned to see a very large, very hairy male covered in white fur. He huffed and said, “As soon as you leave, I am going to clean the steps and the perimeter. Also, do an avalanche check.”

His voice was a gravelly growl, and she crouched and stepped outside. “You’re a...”

“Hazard to plumbing like this.” He chuckled and followed her.

She walked to her launch sight. She glanced at him. “Well, that answers the question if you have a hairy chest or not.”

He grinned and laughed, and she launched skyward. Time to go to work. The fact that she was smiling in her suit was new.

Chapter Four

Titan dropped silently to the boat. The soft sobs of the captured woman were insistent and far too rhythmic.

“Tahlia. You are not that good an actress. If you wanted to go, you could have left without the theatrics.”

The first hit was to the back of her thigh, and she sent an energy pulse forward before turning slowly.

The illusionist held her hands up after she dropped the rocket launcher. “Titan, you have no idea how much they are paying me to deliver you.”

“Three million? That is far too cheap. I am taking you to lockup now.”

Tahlia held her hands up and said, “No, I can’t go back there.”

“Why not?”

“I may have broken a few laws.”

“Fine. You just shot me with a rocket launcher. I take that personally, Tahlia. Now, come with me.”

She grabbed the Uraddan around the wrists, and the dancing illusions ceased. The incoming vessel was the coastguard, and Titan used an electromagnetic pulse to cripple the ship. She flew up and away with the babbling Tahlia. She flew her to active lockup and downloaded the conversation to confirm the reason she was being delivered, registered that she was a dangerous illusion active, and the cuffs were disrupting her.

The rocket launcher footage was sent over, and once everything was registered, Titan said, “I was promised a weekend off.”

The dispatcher nodded. “I know, but this was highlighted as one of yours. I will find out who highlighted it and check on financials.”
