“I can’t. It... isn’t something that I have experience with. I just sent Remark’s mate some presents when her first and second children were decanted.”

“Because you didn’t want to go to the party.”

“I was badly damaged at the time, so it wasn’t possible.”

Zera frowned. “How long have you been too damaged to be seen by the public?”

Ondine rubbed the back of her neck. “This is the least damaged that I have been.”

“Oh, honey.”

“Zera, babe. I am here to sweep you away for lunch.”

Ondine looked at the intruder and smiled.

Zera sighed. “I am finishing an appointment.”

“Are you recruiting? She’s adorable.” Torun looked at her with warm eyes in his purple face.

“No, she isn’t a recruit. She’s a patient. Yes, I will go to lunch with you if you behave.”

He cuddled Zera against him and kissed her softly.

Ondine smiled, thanked Torenne, and walked to the exit where her suit waited.

She had sealed the suit and was turning to leave when Torun called out, “Titan! What are you doing here?”

She turned her metal head. “I was here for a scan. Scan is complete.”

She had never seen him shocked, but he was definitely shocked as she left the lab and settled into the freight area to be brought back to the alley.

Time to get home and finish ordering supplies. She had a date with a measuring tape.

Chapter Ten

Titan was nearly home when she received a summons to the headquarters in the city. Ondine groaned and headed back to face the administration.

She landed in the courtyard and walked inside the building with the huge doors. Titan walked down the halls and into the assigned boardroom. She hunkered down and looked at the assembled heroes and their new dispatcher.

Lehhalla smiled. “Titan. We have just received a request for leave form.”

Titan cocked her head. “From whom?”

“Two sources. Zera and Amadine. Do you have something to say?”

Titan cocked her head in the other direction. “What time frames?”

Lehhalla blinked. “Uh, Zera requested a year, and Amadine said indefinite with emergency access after six months. So, what is going on?”

“I am having a child, and she is nearly to term. I need time to parent.”

Lehhalla cleared her throat. “Couldn’t the other parent take it over?”

“No. This is my child. She was conceived using donor materials.”

Lehhalla scowled. “Can’t you just get childcare?”

The other three stellar defenders looked to their dispatcher. Kaymex asked, “Lehhalla, what is the issue? Titan is having a family. I think it’s great. Should we have a baby shower?”
