I can’t breathe or hold my head up, but I do pepper kisses along Molly’s neck in a promise that she’s going to get that from me.

All of it.

MOLLY

CHAPTERTHIRTEEN

MOLLY

He’s having second thoughts or a war within himself because Kai is up, slowly making his way out of my bed like he was never in it before.

Just like last time.

And while the better part of me thinks that I should let him go and get his head screwed on straight, the other asshole in me wants to show him what’s right in front of him.

Shouldn’t.

I’m fully aware of what this all entails and how feelings can get involved but I don’t think I’m there yet.

Not when I know he’s guarded and he needs to take baby steps. It’s not like I don’t have the time for it. I’m not going anywhere, and maybe I was the one who was supposed to literally walk into his life and give him another chance at something that could be amazing.

Although there are a lot of questions about his ex that are unanswered, I don’t believe that Kai is a bad guy at all.

In fact, the way he is with his daughters shows how good of a guy he is.

“I’m starting to take offense that you don’t like seeing me in the morning.”

Kai freezes before I permit him to take a step away from my bed and it only confirms that, indeed, he was trying to sneak out of here. “Didn’t want to wake you.”

Bullshit.

“Mhm.” I allow my unimpressed response to make it through the air, which gets him to turn his head toward me.

“You had an eventful night.” I meet his blue eyes and I’m not sure if he’s worried that he went too hard on me last night or if it’s just regret that’s eating him alive.

I’m going with the latter.

And as much as that makes me feel like shit, I knew what I was letting into my head and body when I allowed him to start what we’ve been trying to avoid.

We had sex four times and, while my body is exhausted, my brain will not shut off.

“No complaints here,” I deadpan, then jerk my head to the door. “Thanks for trying to sneak out.”

His brows clash together and here we go. “I was being respectful.”

“And I appreciate that.”

“With an attitude.”

I push my lips out because I actually wasn’t trying to be a smartass here, but if he wants to go that route, I have no problem playing ball with him. “I wasn’t trending that way. However, if you think that I didn’t just have a flashback of our first night together, you’re wrong.”

“What did you want me to do, Molly? Wake you up?”

I smile at him, I can’t help it. “No. I’m not a morning person.”

“But you sure do talk a lot.”
