“Yes,” she replied.

“And this is the command center for everything,” he said, the words a statement and not a question.

“Security cameras, entrance and access points, everything is monitored from here,” she said, gesturing to the three desks.

“When the systems are working, I assume,” he murmured, wiping a finger across a dusky desk.

“True,” she agreed with a shrug. It had been over a week since any personnel had been up there.

“All the background checks are done here, along with access card programming,” she said, holding up her wrist. “Or bands.”

He nodded and went back to looking out the window.

“This place is fucking huge. How many cameras are we talking?” he asked.

“I have no idea,” she replied, folding her arms.

“What?” he asked, turning to look at her.

She shrugged, trying not to notice how both the black vest and his black shirt fit him perfectly, with no bagginess. Or how broad and muscled his arms were—

“—you knew everything about this place,” he finished, standing on the other side of the desk from her.

“I know most of the facts, but not a lot about the systems. I don’t need to,” she explained. “All of what you want to know is on this computer.”

She tapped the keyboard, bringing the monitor to life. When he walked around the desk, she stepped to the side to avoid their bodies touching.

“These are on all the time?” he asked.

“Apparently. When the last of the team was fired, they left immediately. They kept one guy on, but I’m pretty sure he quit a few days later.”

“Not an impressive track record for keeping staff,” he commented with a tsking sound.

She shrugged again.

“It’s your problem, now,” she said.

“Huh,” he commented.

“The original security director set it all up according to his own specifications,” she said, thinking back to the what Kensley had told her. “That was back when he managed security for the global Cavendish Enterprises. It’s just the Seattle property that’s run out of here now.”

Ryder whistled.

“And he’s not around to give me the lowdown?” he asked.

“He quit even before the original owners sold it. He wants to stay quit, from what I know,” she replied.

“So, tell me more about how engagements work at Cavendish Club,” he asked, turning to sit on the corner of the desk with folded arms.

Nita looked around for a chair and dragged it over, typing her password and accessing the portal for the testing facility.

“Well, it all starts with the core technology. Did you do a bio-haptics test when you were here before?” she asked.

“No.”

“Right. Okay, so new clients are required to fill out a detailed sexual questionnaire. Once completed, they head to the testing facility.”

“And their answers inform the bio-haptics test?” Ryder asked, clearly intrigued.
