Kaleb huffed. "Fine. Let's talk about us."

"Why haven't you started dating her again?"

Kaleb shoved his hands in his pockets. "I doubt she'd want to pick up where we left off."

"I would hope not. You were barely in your twenties." Grady kept Kaleb's pace. "You've both grown since your breakup. I imagine you'll have to get to know one another all over again."

"I know her pretty well already," Kaleb defended. "She hasn't changed all that much."

"Maybe, maybe not. The only way to find out is to spend time with her. I've seen the way you two interact with one another. She still has feelings for you."

Kaleb snickered. "Feelings of hatred, sure."

Grady guffawed. "Perhaps. Now that we have people working with us, you have time to explore that, don't you?"

"I'm not sure I want to," Kaleb admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. "If she says no, I'll look like a fool."

"If she says yes, you'll have the only woman you've ever loved back in your life," Grady countered.

"I hate it when you use logic against me." Kaleb glared at him, his lips quirking.

"You just hate it when I'm right." They headed back to the house. "Besides, Scarlet needs someone to help her plan the wedding. It may be a year or so away, but she could use a female to walk alongside her since Mom’s not here."

"Yeah, I know. I wish I knew more about those types of things. Or at least had an interest in learning." Kaleb exhaled. "I've been contemplating something. I wanted to talk to you about it before approaching Scarlet and Shane."

"This sounds interesting."

Kaleb stopped before they reached the clearing to the house. "How would you feel if we built Shane and Scarlet a house here on the farm? We have time to do it before their wedding. It can be our gift to them. That way, they don't have to look for something in town, and he can be our regular vet-"

"Which he is anyway since he's marrying our sister," Grady cut in.

"Goes without saying. Sydney can have a place to play. Bailey misses her friend." Kaleb shook his head. "Who would've thought we'd have a sheep dog? And if Scarlet and Shane agree, two dogs on our farm?"

"It actually makes sense. We have a sheep farm after all. We should've had a sheep dog from the beginning." Grady grinned. "Dad would not be happy."

"Nope. But he left the farm with us, and we're doing what is best all around." Kaleb tilted his head. "What do you think? We've been putting money aside to expand anyway. We have plenty of space on our land to add a few houses. When you get married, we can build you one, too."

"Or you," Grady offered. "What if I want the house we live in now?"

"You can take it then. I'm not picky."

A wide grin spread across Grady's face. "Teasing you is always so much fun."

"Don't make me go back to cutting wood again," Kaleb threatened.

Grady laughed. "Wouldn't dream of it. We all know if you're cutting wood when there's no need, something's wrong."

Kaleb winced. "I didn't think about that. Are Scarlet and Shane aware?"

"They are. But I told them it's probably girl troubles."

"You didn't!"

Grady's shoulders shook with laughter. "No, I didn't. I told them I'd find out what's going on. Your secret's safe with me. Always has been. Always will be."

A lump formed in Kaleb's throat. He dipped his head to his chest to clear the moisture from his eyes. When did he become such a crybaby? He'd never been this way before. When Shane asked for Scarlet's hand in marriage, he almost turned into a blubbering idiot.

"Thanks."
