Kaleb straightened after missing his shot as Scarlet narrowed her eyes at them. "What's the real reason?" She crossed her arms and tapped her foot, waiting.

"We're not allowed to want to have brother time?" Kaleb tried to paste on an innocent look.

"Not when we have games like this at the lodge," Scarlet answered with a wave of her hand.

Shoot. He'd forgotten about the rec room off the main room at the lodge. "We wanted to get away from the farm."

"Then why not get coffee or see a movie?" Scarlet pressed, raising an eyebrow.

"She's not going to give up, ya know." Grady shot another ball into the pocket.

Kaleb scowled at him. "Can't you at least pretend to let me try and win?"

"I don't do a lot of things better than you, big brother, so when I do, you better believe I'm going to milk it for all it's worth." Grady tossed him a grin. "Now tell our nosy sister what's eating you so we can finish our game and go home."

Kaleb pinched the bridge of his nose. Bad enough to have Grady know his frustration, but add his sister and Shane to the mix, and his vulnerability level reached maximum status.

Kaleb returned the cue to where it belonged since it was obvious Grady won the game. He filled in Shane and Scarlet on what he saw and waited for their reaction.

"Hm." Shane eyed Kaleb. "I had no idea you were wanting something more with her."

"I've never really let her go."

Compassion flowed from Scarlet. She wrapped her arms around his waist. "I'm sorry. I wish she would've said no to going out with Mayson. You never know. Maybe it won't work out between them."

Kaleb squeezed her back and let her go. "Thanks, but I don't want them to be unhappy. That's not what love looks like, is it?"

"No, I guess not." Scarlet pursed her lips. "I'll find out what I can and let you know."

Kaleb shook his head and held up his hand. "No. I don't want to know. I'm glad she found someone who will love her as she deserves, but I don't need, nor do I want, to know the details."

Scarlet nodded. "I understand, and I'll respect that. What if it doesn’t work out, though? Do you want me to tell you?"

"No, thanks. I don't need to know. If Cinnamon wants to share anything with me, she has the option to do so herself." Kaleb waited as Grady put the balls away and his cue. "I'll see you guys at home."

"Wait. Can you guys take me since Shane lives down the street?"

"Sure. We'll be in the jeep so you can say your goodbyes." Grady led the way to his vehicle. "I know they're going to see each other tomorrow, but Scar likes to get her kisses in."

Kaleb grimaced. "Ew. Not something I want to think about for my little sister."

Grady guffawed. "Get used to it. Sheisgetting married, ya know."

Kaleb shivered. "Yuck. Please stop talking."

Grady howled with laughter again. "This is too much fun, but after the day you had, I'll stop...for now."

"Scarlet, hurry up!" Kaleb yelled out the window.

"That's not nice," Grady scolded. "Let her have her fun."

"Okay, seriously, if you don't quit, I'm going to walk home."

Grady chuckled and started the engine. "This'll help her finish up."

Seconds later, Scarlet climbed into the backseat. "Thanks, guys. Shane didn't need to drive me all the way home when you're here."

"Makes sense." Grady nodded.
