A book in her hands, she skimmed the pages. Looked like one of Jewel's books. "Does that one look good?"

"It does. It's about the fall." Cinnamon set it aside and held her chin in her hands. "Did you talk with Mayson?"

"No. He wasn't there."

Cinnamon frowned. "That's odd. I saw him when we first walked in." She glanced around, her brow dipping even further. "Something's wrong, Kaleb."

"What do you mean?" He followed her gaze. The back door to Mayson's office remained shut. That was normal.

"Look at some of the customers. They're tense. No one's making eye contact with us." Cinnamon's gaze flicked to the door. "No one came in after us, either, and no one left."

Kaleb pressed his lips together. "Do you know the barista?"

Cinnamon nodded. "She's new. Friendly."

"Huh." Kaleb's heart picked up speed. "She wasn't with me at all. Matter of fact, she suggested I go somewhere else."

"Why would she say that?"

Kaleb shook his head. "I don't know."

Another employee came to deliver their drinks, her lips pinched. "Mayson needs help," she whispered from the corner of her mouth. She slid their coffees in front of them with napkins.

She hurried away, head down.

Kaleb casually opened the napkin. "Help. We're being robbed."

Cinnamon's eyes widened. "Oh no. What're we going to do?"

"Wearen't going to do anything," Kaleb growled between clenched teeth.

Cinnamon's eyes narrowed. "Haven't we talked about you making decision for me?"

Kaleb loosened his jaw and pasted on a smile. "We don't know who's robbing the place. Act like we're fine."

"I don't want to."

An idea sparked within Kaleb. "Okay. Good idea. Let's fight, and then you storm out. You can alert the police, while I go find Mayson for 'comfort'." He air-quoted the word.

"You're staying here?" Cinnamon's voice rose. "I am not leaving you alone."

"Cinnamon, please." Kaleb couldn't keep the panic from his voice. "I don't want anything to happen to you. I can't lose you again."

Cinnamon's features softened. "I feel the same way."

"Then please, have a fight with me."

Cinnamon's eyes filled with fear and love. "I don't want to."

"Please. The sooner you get help, the better." Kaleb narrowed his eyes. "Now tell me I'm a pig and throw your coffee at me."

Cinnamon's eyes widened as she fought to contain her smile. "I've always wanted to do this to someone."

"Glad I could be of assistance." Kaleb allowed a small chuckle to leave his lips.

Cinnamon pushed away from the table, grabbed her ice coffee, thank God it was cold, and raised her voice, "You're a pig, Kaleb Linden, and I never want to see you again.”

Even though it was planned, hearing the woman he loved break up with him drove a spear through his heart. "Cinnamon, wait." He stood, his chair crashing to the floor behind him.
