“That was my cousin Elliot’s best friend. Remember Elliot? You met him at the wedding. I guess that was one of his other friends with him. And before you start getting all jealous again, let me remind you, again, that I’m not interested in anyone else.”

He groaned. “Yeah, I know. I know. It’s harder than I thought it would be, being with you in a public place and not being able to let anyone know you’re with me.”

“You’re right, because you know what I thought when I saw you?” Stepping closer, I lowered my voice. “I thought that I wanted to kiss you. I want to kiss the fuck out of you, in fact.”

His smile reappeared, deepening into a knowing smirk. “I had strawberries just now in the student union.”

“Fuck, Huxley. You’d taste like my favourite thing.” This fucker knew exactly what the thought did to me. “We need to be aloneright now. Come with me.”

I had no idea where I was going, but I picked a random direction and started walking. As we headed away from the LSU campus, I forced myself to think with my brain instead of my dick and turned to Huxley. “How was your first day?”

“Good. Different. I think I’ll like it.”

That was high praise coming from Hux.

“Good. I worried about you.”

His gaze shot to mine. “Seriously?”

“Of course I did. It’s your first day in a new place.” Reaching out, I gripped his arm, spotting a tiny, narrow road just behind him. “Down here.”

“I’m not used to anyone worrying about me,” he said, his tone soft and almost wondering, and I inwardly cursed his parents for making him feel like they didn’t care. And I knew for a fact that his dad cared.

“Get used to it.” I came to a stop in a doorway. We were down a little cobbled side road with the backs of buildings around us. I could just about catch a glimpse of the Thames between the buildings in front of us, and that meant there’d be people right up ahead, but for now, we were alone. Wasting no time, I wrapped my arms around Huxley, tugging him into me. But before I could kiss him, he placed his fingers to my lips.

“Wait. I brought you something.” He dipped into his messenger bag, pulling out what looked like a lumpy napkin. Lifting his hand, he stared at me expectantly. Holding on to him with one hand, I unwrapped the napkin with the other, until his gift was completely unwrapped, the napkin falling to the floor.

“Oh. Hux.”

“I saved the best one for you.” On the palm of his hand was a large red strawberry, glistening in the early evening sunlight, plump and juicy and delicious. The way to a man’s heart was definitely through his stomach, if it involved my favourite fruit.

He lifted it to my lips, and I bit into it, moaning as the delicious flavour burst on my tongue. Juice ran down my bottom lip, but before I could swipe it away, Huxley angled his head forwards and licked across the curve of my lip, capturing the droplets. “Fucking delicious,” I rasped, my fingers curling around his, pushing the fruit towards his mouth. He bit into it, swallowing the remaining piece, and then all that remained for me to do was to suck the remaining juice from his fingers.

“Fuuuck,” he groaned as I dipped my head and took his finger into my mouth, swirling my tongue to get every drop of juice. By the time I’d finished fellating his fingers to my satisfaction, both of us were breathing heavily and hard, his hips rocking against mine in a teasing, dirty grind that made me want to do very bad things to him, right there on a public street.

Curving my hand around his nape, I pulled his head to mine. “Need to kiss you.”

The second our lips met, it was like fireworks went off in my belly. I couldn’t get enough of him. I wasn’t sure I’d ever get enough.

We kissed and kissed and kissed, slow and deep and so fucking good. When we finally broke apart, it was only because the sound of heels on the cobblestones alerted us to someone else’s presence. I cupped Huxley’s jaw, brushing one last soft kiss over his lips, and then let my forehead fall against his.

“Cole.” His chest rose and fell against mine in unsteady breaths. “We should…uh…walk.”

“Yeah.” He was right. We couldn’t do anything else here, even though my entire body ached for him. Clearing my throat, I forced myself to release him and take a step back. “Do you wanna walk by the river or something?”

He nodded, falling into step next to me as we made our way towards the Thames. Every now and then, his knuckles grazed over mine, and it was almost enough.Almost.

I broke the silence to stop my thoughts from turning melancholy. “I got a new job today. Well, not a new job, but they offered me a paid version of the volunteer admin job I’ve been doing at the charity.”

Huxley glanced over at me with a smile as we turned left onto the Thames river path, the sunlight shimmering on the water. “Yeah? That’s great.” He paused for a second and then added, all in a rush, “I’m proud of you.”

“You’ll be even more proud when you hear the next bit.” Pulling my phone from my pocket, I scrolled to my playlists. “I memorised all your songs. All the cover versions, anyway. The only ones I don’t know are the new ones you’re writing with Tom.”

“You did?”

“Yeah. I’m allowed to listen to music at work, so I’ve been using my time wisely.”

Coming to a stop, he rested his arms on the wall that ran alongside the river. His throat worked, his gaze fixed on the water as he blinked rapidly. The urge to tug him into my arms was so strong that I had to clench my fists and fold my arms across my chest to stop myself from reaching for him.
