My arm tightened around him as I tugged him even closer, savouring the feel of his warm body against mine. I didn’t have to hide my affection for him anymore, and I’d never been so happy. “Yeah. I think they did.”

“That’s the last of it.” My dad placed a large cardboard box onto the pile at the side of the room. The flat wasn’t much to look at—small and neutrally decorated, with an open-plan living space, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a storage closet in the hallway. But the lounge had its own tiny balcony that was big enough for a little table and two chairs, and best of all, the entire flat had been soundproofed by a previous owner. That meant we wouldn’t be disturbing the neighbours with my music…and other things.

We were only renting the space, but it was somewhere that was just ours. Now we were properly together as a couple, Cole and I had agreed that it was too weird and awkward living under the same roof as our parents, and I was sure they agreed, so we’d started looking for a place to live. It had taken a while to find somewhere because we needed to be within easy reach of Cole’s job at the charity, LSU, and our parents’ house. Eventually, though, this flat had come up, and we’d taken it as soon as we’d seen it.

My dad had insisted on subsidising our rent on the proviso that we would have dinner or a catch-up with him and June at least once a fortnight, preferably more often, and of course, we had our family bonding nights. We’d agreed to his conditions without question. I was a student and would be for a long time to come. Neither of Cole’s jobs paid particularly well, and he was still only part-time at the charity, so it was good to have the financial support of our family. We were lucky to have it.

“Thanks, David.” Grinning, Cole clapped him on the back. “If you ever feel like a career change, you could easily get a job in removals.”

It was weird to see him teasing my dad like this, but ever since the truth about our relationship had come out, it felt like everyone had relaxed more around each other. My dad and I were still trying to navigate this new dynamic, but the abrasiveness that had always been between us was gone for good.

June entered the room, carrying two familiar chipped blue-and-white mugs. “Something old and something blue.” She raised the mugs into the air. “The flat is a rental, so that covers the something borrowed part, and it also covers the new part because it’s your new home.”

“Mum, you do realise we’re not getting married, right? We’re just moving out.” Cole shook his head with a grin, taking the mugs from her and heading over to the kitchen cupboards.

“Indulge me. Our children are leaving the nest.” Her words were joking, but her lip trembled, and Cole was instantly there, wrapping his arms around her.

“We’re only a few tube stops away, and we’ll be coming over to eat all your food as often as we can. I’ll text you every day, okay?”

“You’d better.” She sniffed as he released her and then gave me a wobbly smile. “Huxley?”

I wasn’t a hugger, but I also wasn’t a heartless bastard. Not anymore. Crossing the room, I gave her a brief hug, and then my dad wanted to hug me, and my hug quota for the year was used up in about five minutes.

When they’d left us alone, Cole collapsed onto his back on the sofa, holding out his arms. He smirked at me. “Are you all hugged out, or can your sexy, amazing boyfriend get a turn?”

“I don’t know. When’s he getting here?”

“Ha ha. Come here, Hux.”

Before I went to him, I took a minute to cue up some music on my phone, linking it to the Wi-Fi speakers. That done, I left my phone on the table and let my sexy, amazing boyfriend pull me down on top of him.

“Mmm. There you are.” He smiled up at me, sliding his hands down my back and onto my ass. “I love this song.”

“Yeah?” I knew he did. It was “Never Enough” by The Hunna, the song I’d sung to him in front of all those people to show him I loved him.

“Yeah.” His lips met mine. “I really, really love it.”

“Do you love it more than Katy Perry? Or Cher? Or Beyoncé?”

“Hmm. Let’s not go that far.” He shot me a grin before kissing me again. “I think we should complete the most important part of the moving-in tradition now.”

“Which is?”

“Christening the flat. Let’s start with the sofa.”

After christening the lounge, bathroom—which was like playing Tetris, trying to fit all our body parts into one tiny space—and bedroom, there was only one place left. The balcony.

“It’s my turn to fuck you.” Cole pressed me up against the wall of the lounge, next to the balcony door, his mouth at my throat and his fingers lightly tugging at one of the barbells in my nipples. To say he was obsessed with them was an understatement. It was a win-win situation for both of us because when he played with them, it felt so fucking good.

We were both completely naked, and I could see this becoming a habit. Cole was fucking hot, so why wouldn’t I want to take every opportunity I could to look at his body?

Dipping down, I gave into my urges and dragged my tongue over his abs, stopping at the top of the dark trail of hair that led to his rapidly stiffening erection. Glancing up at him through my lashes, I felt him shiver against me, his hand coming down to run his fingers through my hair.

“Suck me on the balcony, Hux. Then I’m gonna fuck you.”
