“I’m not pregnant,” I said simply. “I was just a few days late. I’m not sure why someone felt the need to stalk me at the pharmacy, but they need a new hobby.”

It was a blatant lie, but seeing as how I hadn’t even gone to a doctor yet, they didn’t get any real answers from me. My life. My choice.

She didn’t miss a beat. “So, I take it things with your pack are going well?”

I let my smile spread naturally this time and felt my cheeks warm. “Actually, yes. They were definitely not what I was looking for after the show. But it seemed the Forrest Pack was looking out for me in the end.”

“How are you coping with the aftermath ofMy Fairytale? Last we saw of you, you were angry and stalking off the show.”

“I was understandably devastated at the time,” I admitted. “Everything from my perspective seemed fine. The rejection was a huge shock. I moved away and took control of my life. I’ve never been happier.”

“And correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t that Bear from the Forrest pack buying that pregnancy test with you? I feel like there’s a story there,” she said conspiratorially, leaning forward like we were friends gossiping. I wanted to smack her off the stool but I bit that urge down and smiled instead.

“It was. Bear is no longer Forrest Pack however, he’s mine,” I said. The possessive tone in my voice didn’t go unnoticed either.

“How did that come about? Was he against the choice his alpha made?” Her eyes widened at her own question and I laughed softly.

“He was. There was never a unanimous decision, the alpha simply decided his word was worth more, it seems,” I said. Bitterness was not something I felt often but anytime I thought about how they bulldozed my omega mate, I was ready to turn feral. “He did not like who they had become and left them behind. When he explained everything to me, we worked out our differences and found we had far more in common than we thought.”

Like a mate.

Though I didn’t say that to her, I only wanted to disclose what Bear was comfortable with, no more, no less.

“That’s definitely an interesting plot twist,” she laughed, the sound musical and almost believable.

“We actually have someone else here who might find this conversation interesting. Morgan, could you join us?”

Ice ran down my spine at her words and I couldn’t even bring myself to look toward her as she approached.

Fuck, if I wasn’t already pushing the limits of my contract I’d have walked right out of this one as well.

The worst part was I couldn’t just go get a drink after this. I had a feeling I’d need a stiff one by the time this was over. I guess copious amounts of chocolate would have to do.

“Thanks for having me, Rhonda. I’ve been trying to find a way to make peace with Ellie,” she said, a pout in her voice.

“I think you made where we stood very clear,” I said in a cold tone. “But that’s not even the worst you’ve done, so I don’t think you want to have this conversation.”

Morgan’s eyes widened comically as her mouth fell open gaping at the new and improved Ellie. She must have been expecting the sweet, quiet girl she met before. But she effectively killed her when shehumiliatedme on national television. And for what? Money? Status? Fame? Certainly not love, that much was obvious.

“What could be worse than that level of betrayal?” Rhonda gasped. For once, it was a question born of true curiosity.

“Two of my mates previously dated Morgan,” I said, finally looking at the woman who was sick and twisted enough to hurt so many people. She was white as a ghost as she stared back. “She pitted them against each other, destroyed their relationship, then left them to be on the show.”

“We… I… things just weren’t working out. It was a breakup,” she argued.

“No,” I countered. “They’ve told me,in detail, the things you said to drive them apart. Did you think you could come back for them later? Were you going to be the savior? You need therapy, Morgan. Lots of it.”

“I’m not the only one. You abandoned your family when you ran,” she said, leaning back and giving Rhonda a knowing look.

Rhonda stood and gestured to the back room. “We do have a few people interested in that answer as well. I’d like to welcome Ellie’s family onto the set.”

She ran through the introductions as I watched my parents walk onto the set, the production crew throwing a few more stools in the mix.

They’d officially trapped me in my own personal hell.

“Oh, Ellie! We’ve missed you!” My mother gushed as she tried to hug me but I stood and backed away.

“Do not touch me. We are not family,” I said firmly.
