Throughout my entire life they had always been my biggest supporters. I was lucky to have them.

“Why don’t you call the twins and have them swing by for you after their last showing of the day? They know the surrounding areas and can get you out of town. Stay in a hotel for the night maybe,” Micah suggested.

“That’s not a terrible idea,” I agreed. The idea of getting out of Lockwood and away from the bullshit that was following us was way too enticing.

Morgan was unlikely to let things end where I left them. She’d probably join forces with my parents if she hadn’t already. I wanted to be miles away from that impending train wreck.

“I’ll call them now.”

The momentwe got the call from Ellie, Atlas and I wrapped up our days as quickly as we could. Within an hour, we were driving back toward Lockwood, already making plans.

Ellie hadn’t given us a single detail, but from how tired she sounded on the phone, the interview did not go well.

She was waiting at Micah’s house when we got there and she didn’t say anything as she stepped out the door and walked herself to the SUV, not bothering to give us a chance to come and get her ourselves.

Something Ezra wouldn’t have let slide.

We both turned to her, concerned and ready for details, but she held up a hand to stop us from asking.

“I promise to talk, but I need a minute. Can you guys just drive wherever we’re going?”

“We’ve got you.” Atlas promised, already navigating back onto the street and heading out of town. We talked about our plans ahead of time and if Ellie needed a true escape it wasn’t going to be nightclubs or bars, especially while she’s pregnant. Instead, we booked a honeymoon suite with a king bed, jacuzzi tub, and we’d order in her favorite food. They even promised to have sparkling juice and chocolate-covered strawberries ready by the time we got there.

It helped having some good connections in the city. So far, Atlas and I were winning at date nights.

True to her word, Ellie stayed silent. The music was the only sound in the car as we drove down the highway. I was starting to get worried, Ellie wasn’t the type to go quiet like this.

The bond was eerily silent. She had guarded herself so heavily we couldn’t even crack through. What the hell?

Atlas and I were not the types to push her, but that didn’t mean that we were able to hold back from sharing a worried glance here and there.

When we finally reached the hotel, Ellie still hadn't spoken. Atlas let the valet park for us and we made our way inside.

None of us were prepared enough to have luggage so we’d have to grab whatever we could from the staff or a nearby store. But that was future Dean’s problem. Right now, I wanted to get my omega upstairs.

We sped through check in and led our omega up to the suite.

Atlas cracked as soon as we stepped inside. “Ellie, I can’t do this anymore. What’s wrong?”

The moment she started talking it just spilled out. She dropped onto the edge of the bed, letting everything loose from the interview to the conversation afterwards then hiding at Micah’s. She was mentally and emotionally drained and I couldn’t blame her.

We always talked about how hard it was on Dad when the rest of his pack left him but it was also our parents leaving us. I couldn’t imagine them trying to waltz back into our life and demanding to be recognized for their efforts in bringing us up.

Dad was the only person who got to take credit for that. He’d managed to take care of twin boys who were hurt, and angry at the world. He stuck by us through all the ups and downs we had since then, including the huge fight with Morgan and each other.

Atlas moved in front of her, pulling her to her feet. “None of that matters tonight. Instead we are going to pamper you. We have chocolate-covered strawberries, you get to pick dinner, we’ll order it in so we don’t even have to leave. And you get a full-body massage.”

“Does it come with a happy ending?” she asked, smirking at us. Some of the life was coming back to Ellie’s eyes and I was glad to see it. Our life had been full of too much drama lately and it was starting to take a toll on all of us.

“Oh it always comes with a happy ending,” I promised, blowing her a kiss. She giggled softly and shook out her body as if she was ridding herself of all the bad vibes that followed her here.

“Then count me in.”

“What does the baby want to eat tonight?” Atlas asked as he grabbed the takeout menus from the kitchenette.
