She paused for a moment and cursed.

"Am I not supposed to say these things? I don't know how to handle two packs."

"We're one pack," I corrected her. "You're the center and that brings us together."

"No pressure," she deadpanned.

"I'm glad you had a good day. It makes me feel better, honestly," I admitted.

"You're so different than him," she said with a sigh. "He used to be so controlling. He hated if I talked to other guys. He'd never make it through all this."

"I'm surprised you let him act that way," I said. "Not that I'm trying to blame you. You deserved better."

"He taught me how to have a backbone," she admitted. "I was too complacent then, liked to please people. After he discarded me like that I made promises to myself that I keep."

"Good," I said.

We were quiet for a moment before I realized I'd have to go back in.

"Make sure they take good care of you while we're gone. Can we have a date when I get back?"

"Yes," she answered. "I'd love that."

"Amazing. Have a good night."

"Night," she offered before ending the call.

When I walked back inside I was feeling a whole lot better than when I walked out. Serenity had places in her heart for all of us and was already making it clear that she wasn't holding any sort of resentment to us for what Evrin did.

If I was angry at my brother before, it was twice as bad now. I hated how he treated her then and every story made my skin crawl. Had we all looked past his red flags before then?

The reality of it all was even if he got his shit together we'd have to keep him away from her. I wouldn't risk her mental health to make him feel included.

Amos and Jackson looked up as I walked back in. I took my seat before saying a word.

"We ordered for you," Jackson said. "Who was on the phone?"

"Serenity. I texted her and she wanted to check in. She's hanging out with the other pack tonight but said we could have a date when we get back."

"I've been texting her, too," Jackson admitted.

Amos looked defeated.

"I've got to have a talk with her when I get back. She told me to wait until I faced all this and she was right," he admitted.

"Don't be Evrin," I said, telling them what she recounted of her past with him.

"I won't be," he promised. "I'm realizing he wasn't the guy I thought he was, even before all this."

"Sometimes it's hard to really know people," I said. "We can support him and move on with our lives. Our future is whatever we decide it is."

"Lockwood could use a PI office," Jackson said. "We can do some cybersecurity as well."

"It's time for a new life," I agreed. "Starting now."

Serenity

Isaac was more than a little tipsy by the time I drove him back. We shared one more drink before we left and it had him relaxed and playful.
