Emery nods her little head and turns to look towards the other fire where Brit is talking to Tank and Maria. “Mommy!”

Brit turns and saunters over to her daughter. I watch in amusement as Ghost’s eyes practically fall out of his head as he sweeps his gaze along her body.

“Who’s the kid?” Lyric asks from my side, interrupting my perusal of Ghost and Brit’s meeting.

“That’s Emery, Brit’s daughter,” I say with a nod toward the pair. I watch Lyric and try to find any jealousy in her eyes as we all watch Ghost stumble all over himself. I’m always surprised to not find any when it comes to them. I know they have an agreement of sorts, just like Trigger and I did, but look where that got us.

“She’s cute as hell,” Lyric says, smiling at Emery. “Mom is hot as shit too.”

“It’s been a couple of months since I met her, and I swear I had absolutely no idea she was hiding all of that under her baggy clothes,” I laugh, waving my finger in the air to accentuate all of her curves.

“She would make akillingat the club,” Lyric remarks. I follow her eyes and let out a bark of laughter as I see she’s blatantly staring at Brit’s voluptuous ass.

“I don’t think she’d ever do that.”

“What does she do?” Lyric asks, still not breaking eye contact with Brit’s body.

“Today was actually her first day with Maria at the salon.”

“Good for her.”

“That doesn’t bother you?” I ask, nodding to where Ghost is clearly, based on Brit’s shy smile and body language, spitting some major game,

“Nah. We’ve been strictly platonic for months now.”

My eyes whip to hers. “What?”

“Yeah. I kinda met someone.”

“What!” I yell, causing everyone to briefly turn and look at us.

“I met him at the club a couple of months ago. I hadn’t been with Ghost in a while and one thing led to another. We sort of just hit it off.”

“Lyric, why didn’t I know that?” I ask, pouting at my friend and feeling like shit for not knowing something pretty damn important.

Lyric waves me off. “You’ve had your own shit to worry about. Besides, it’s nothing serious yet. When and if that happens, you’ll be the first to meet him.”

“Deal.”

Lyric shoves a golden marshmallow between her lips and starts talking with a full mouth. “Who do you think is going to win the costume contest?”

“Brenna and Flame’s costumes came out pretty damn good,” I say, looking across the courtyard at a shivering Brenna.

“We didn’t really pick weather friendly costumes this year, did we?” Lyric cackles. “Did you see whoever the two guys are that dressed as Michael from Halloween?”

“Yeah, briefly. Not very original.”

“I wonder who it is. I was trying to see who was missing but didn’t notice anyone. Then again, I think Ghost invited the whole town. This place is packed!”

“There you are,” Trigger says as he squats down in front of me. “We’re about to vote for costumes. Maria said since there are so many couples costumes that we’re voting for best singles and couples costumes.”

“That’s awesome!” Lyric shrieks, hopping off her chair to go inside. “Come on!”

Trigger pulls me up by the hand. As soon as I stand up, another sharp pain shoots down through my pelvis. I lose my breath momentarily as I wait for the pressure to go away. Trigger looks at me with a frown. “You all good?”

I smile at him, standing straight once the pain subsides. “Perfect. Let's go in.”

Once we’re all packed in the clubhouse like sardines. Lilah climbs up on the stage to a string of whistles and catcalls. “Everyone, shut up and listen up!”
