Take Your Vitamins.

Two weeks later

“Heather! Breakfast is ready!” Maria sing-songs from downstairs.

I groan, rolling over on the soft bed.

I am not looking forward to today.

Every mother should be ecstatic the day they find out they are having a baby. They should be excited to go to the appointments and pick out nursery themes, baby names, and car seats.

Me on the other hand? Thinking about being pregnant only serves as a glaring reminder of the day that ruined my life.

I can’t bring myself to look anyone in the eye. All I find is pity. Every person around me pities me. I don’t want anyone's fucking pity. What I want is for this nightmare to never have happened.

Today is my first visit with Dr. Murphy, the OB-GYN. Winnie sees her and has nothing but good things to say about her.

It’s not like I had a choice in the matter. Everyone seems to have taken matters into their own hands where I’m concerned. I haven’t made one decision for myself since I left the hospital. It’s like I’m drowning inside, but everyone around me is keeping me afloat, whether I want them too or not.

My phone buzzes against the bedside table. Tapping on the glass, I huff at the demanding text that lights up the screen.

Take your vitamins.

I roll my eyes. Scrolling up through the last fifty messages from Trigger, they all look the damn same.

Make sure you’re drinking water.

Eat a snack.

Take your vitamins.

Take a nap.

And my personal favorite?

What do you want for lunch?

Every single day he asks what I want for lunch. And every day the text has gone unanswered from my end. But that doesn’t stop him from showing up to Tank and Maria’s house with a take out bag from somewhere. He sits silently across from me at the table and eats. I don’t say a word in response to him, but that doesn’t stop him from coming over.

I pull a robe over my shoulders, tying it at my waist. Trudging down the stairs, I stop short when I see Ghost sitting at the table.

I frown at him as he stabs his fork into an omelet plated in front of him.

“Morning, sunshine!” Ghost smiles over his mouthful as I take the seat across from him.

Maria places another omelet in front of me, sliding the hot sauce she knows I like next to my fork. “Eat up! Today’s a big day.”

Ghost is the only person that hasn’t changed towards me since the incident. He doesn't tip toe around me, and he sure as hell doesn’t look at me with pity in his eyes.

“Ghost is going to take you today,” Maria says as she blows the steam floating up from her hot coffee.

I turn my gaze to Ghost’s sly grin and frown in confusion. Why the fuck would he be taking me? I figured with how bossy Trigger has been, he would drag me kicking and screaming the whole way.

Or maybe Trigger doesn’t care to go? Maybe I disgust him now. I wouldn’t blame him. I disgust myself.

My heart falters in my chest as I settle on that thought. I know everythings different now. Nothing will ever be the same.

Ghost pops a toothpick in his mouth. It disappears between full lips and bushy blonde beard. Stretching his arms up, he settles his big hands behind his bald head. His large muscles stretch against the black Castle shirt he’s wearing.
