Conrad’s thumb begins rubbing circles into my thigh.

“Thinking I’ll stay at the guys’ place as well.”

Without looking at me, I see the side of his mouth tip up.

He goes back to stroking my thigh as everyone chatters and enjoys the minibar provided by the limo service. I stop after my second glass, wanting to have a clear head. Tonight is the first time I will be sleeping over since our breakup, and it feels like our first time all over again.

While I wasn’t a virgin when I met Conrad, I had such a crush on him for years that the buildup to us getting together at a party meant more to me than he could ever know. The two guys before him don’t hold a candle to Conrad Dugray. When I’m intimate with him, it feels as if I have known this man my entire life. I trust him completely, with my heart and body. That is probably why it was harder than anything when he ended us because I have never given that much of myself to another person.

He says he won’t hurt me again, and I need to believe him when he says he loves me and won’t let me go. If I keep my heart closed off to Conrad, it will only hurt me in the end. He deserves a second chance, especially with how he has treated me with nothing but care since coming back.

The limo comes to a halt, breaking me from my thoughts and causing the flutter of nerves in my stomach to flourish, knowing we are at his house and what is to come. Conrad would never pressure me into having sex if I didn’t want to or wasn’t ready, but I think I am. I love him and miss being with him in the most physically intimate way there is.

Our friends stumble, thanks to the copious amount of alcohol Maddox handed out, as they exit the vehicle. Everyone is laughing and having fun while Conrad and I remain quiet as we follow our friends into the house. His arm is wrapped around my waist, and the heat from his hand is burning through my thin dress.

Once inside, Maddox strolls into the kitchen while everyone else lounges on the couches. “Can you believe the shit they fed us at this thing? We’re athletes. I don’t need a fancy-ass dry and flavorless chicken and veggies meal. We need substance,” Maddox yells from the kitchen.

Conrad and I remain joined but stand behind the couches rather than joining everyone else. I think we both have the same idea in our minds but don’t want to be rude and leave our friends.

“Do you plan on making yourself something better? Because I still have nightmares from the pasta dish you almost killed me with.” Blaire laughs from her spot on Camden’s lap. She’s sitting across him as he lazily strokes her thigh.

Maddox comes back into the living room with a sandwich and a water bottle. “Of course not, and you did not almost die. It wasn’t that spicy.” He plops down onto the couch beside Levi.

Laughter fills the room at Maddox’s denial of his terrible cooking.

“Dude, pretty sure you gave me a stomach ulcer from that meal. Who puts that many jalapeños and red pepper flakes in a pasta dish anyway?” Mateo asks.

“Someone with a sophisticated palate,” Maddox answers before ripping off a large bite of his sandwich.

Conrad’s hand on my waist tightens, and I know he’s about to give our friends an excuse about why we’re going upstairs, but before he can, Maddox speaks with a mouthful of food. “You two going to stand there all night or go upstairs and screw? We can all smell the sexual desires going on there.”

My face heats up as the guys laugh. “Ew, I don’t ever want to hear the wordssexual desirescome out of your mouth again.” Jules’s face is of pure disgust.

“Adults have sex, Julesy. Just because you’re celibate doesn’t mean we all are.”

She rolls her eyes and goes back to watching some alligator-catching show they put on TV. Conrad looks down at me and smiles. He kisses my forehead before addressing our friends. “Good night, everyone.”

“Good night, you horndogs,” Maddox tells us, his voice reflecting an evident smile on his face.

Conrad links our hands together and has me following him up the stairs. As we walk down the hallways toward his room, the sounds of the TV fade away.

All the guys’ rooms are on the second floor. Maddox has the owner’s suite at the end of the hallway to the left. Coming up the stairs, taking a right, Conrad’s room is the first door on the left. On the right between his and Camden’s rooms is the bathroom they share, and down at the end on the right is Levi’s room. While Maddox was lucky enough to get his own private bathroom, Conrad, Levi, Mateo, and Camden share the one full bathroom and there is a half bath downstairs.

When I had stayed over before, it was unsettling sharing a bathroom with four guys, especially when they have a tendency to not always shut the door when they use the toilet. There were too many encounters with them in the early morning, and Mateo has no shame if you catch him in nothing but a pair of boxers peeing over the toilet.

Conrad turns the knob on his bedroom door and holds it open for me. I enter, inhaling the familiar scent of his leather and sandalwood cologne. The door clicks and when I turn, Conrad is locking it. He twists the doorknob, making sure that the door is truly locked.

I raise my eyebrow at him in question.

He shakes his head. “Don’t ask, but I will say I have invasive roommates.”

The air in the room changes as we stare at each other. Now that we’re together, I don’t know what I was nervous about earlier. This is Conrad. The man who has cherished me, admiring my body and showing me he would love me over anything else, even his family. There is no reason to feel anything but at home with him.

Conrad’s eyes darken as he takes me in from head to toe. I’m still in my heels, and I would have shucked them off the moment we got in here, but the way he is looking at them makes the pain worth it.

“Come here, baby,” he tells me, his voice low as if he is struggling to control himself.

Without a second thought, I take a few steps and close the distance between us. The sound of my heels clicking against his hardwood floor is the only noise in the otherwise quiet room. Conrad watches my every movement with little expression on his face, but I can see the hunger in his eyes.
