As soon as they were outside, playful Kade was gone and enforcer Kade was very present as he looked everywhere while leading her to the passenger side of her car. He tossed their bags into the back seat and then leaned in her door and pulled the seatbelt over her. While she was on edge because of his sudden alertness, her body reacted to his chest brushing against her nipples as he reached over her.

The moment was over in a blink as he closed the door and rounded the front of the car while still looking at all his surroundings. Neither of them spoke during the drive, and when she realized he’d taken several unnecessary turns, she looked over at him and noticed he kept looking in the rearview mirror. “What’s wrong?”

Not moving his eyes off the road, he handed her his phone. “Call Steele and give me the phone.”

His tone was sharp, giving no room for argument or questions. Taking the device from him, she started to tremble as she hurried to find Steele’s name. As soon as she pressed the call button, she handed the phone to him.

“There’s a black truck following us. It looks like a Dodge of some kind. Can you get guys out there?”

Remi spun around in her seat to try to look at the truck he was talking about.

“Turn around, Little girl,” he demanded.

Turning back around, she looked at him wide-eyed as he listened to whatever Steele was saying on the phone.

“Yeah. We’re about seven minutes away. The truck is still following.”

He pulled the phone from his ear and dropped it into one of the cup holders. Her entire body shook and it felt like her skin was ice cold as she stared at him, unable to speak.

Looking over at her, he grabbed hold of one of her hands. “It’s okay, Princess. Just breathe for Daddy. We’re almost there.”

Just breathe for Daddy.

His reassuring words soothed her, and she did as he said and took several deep breaths.

Just breathe for Daddy.

Daddy. He was her Daddy. Kade washerDaddy. Could life get any weirder? Was he only wanting to be her Daddy because she was in trouble? She hoped not because it would break her if he decided he didn’t want her. He squeezed her hand again, and all those fears disappeared from her mind, replaced with the fear of the situation they were currently in.

“I’m scared,” she said in a small voice.

Her Little side was floating just below the surface, and she knew it was because she was afraid.

“I know, baby. I’ll keep you safe, though. I’m not going to let anything happen to you. You trust me?”

She didn’t even have to think about it before she nodded. “Yes. I do.”

He squeezed her hand one more time before he pulled his away and put it on the steering wheel as he took another turn. They were only a block away from the entrance of the compound, and as they approached the gates, she saw the line of men she considered family standing with guns in their hands, ready to fight for her safety at a moment’s notice.

The men parted just enough for Kade to pull into the parking lot and then immediately moved back together to block anyone else from getting into the compound as someone started sliding the gate closed. Instead of driving back to the clubhouse, Kade pulled into one of the open bays of his custom motorcycle shop. Someone immediately pulled the bay door down as Kade got out of the car.

“Stay here and do not get out of the car. If you get out before I come get you, I’m spanking your ass.”

He shut the car door before she could respond, and she heard him barking orders at whoever was in the garage, and then suddenly there was a large biker standing next to her door, making it so she couldn’t get out of the car if she tried.

The minutes that passed felt like hours as she waited for Kade to return. Who had followed them? And why did they want her? Tears streamed down her face, and she wished she had her teddy bear to hold for comfort.

When the passenger door finally opened, Kade leaned in and unbuckled her and then scooped her up in his arms. Letting out a soft whimper, she snuggled into his chest and let him carry her without fighting it.

“I got you, baby,” he murmured as he carried her into the clubhouse, walking directly back to his apartment.

She fell apart in his arms as soon as he closed the door behind them. Kade sat down on the couch, setting her on his lap as she cried into his shirt. He rubbed her back and whispered reassuring words to her until her eyelids felt so heavy, she just couldn’t keep them open any longer.

When she woke, she was still on Kade’s lap, and she knew she’d slept for a while. When she shifted, he looked down at her and gave her a soft smile.

“Hey, sleepy girl. Sleep well?”
