“Not at all. She had a great time.”

“You looked like you were enjoying dancing with her.”

“I couldn’t help but wonder if that’s how it would have been like for me if I’d had kids.” He took a swig of his beer.

“You can still have kids. It’s not over for you,” I said, a little shocked that’s what he thought.

“I gave up on the idea a long time ago.”

“It doesn’t seem like you have.” My fingers itched to touch him, to soothe him in some way.

“It still hurts, you know? When you want something so badly but you can’t have it.” His voice was raw as he set his empty bottle on the floor.

Were we still talking about kids, or was it something else?

Then he stood and paced the small space in front of the couch. “I’ve been telling myself that you’re off-limits, that you don’t want anything to do with me.” He stopped to face me. Meeting my gaze, he said, “Tell me I’m wrong.”

Not able to break the connection, I stood and closed the distance between us. I placed my palms on his chest, not breaking eye contact. “You’re wrong.”

I wasn’t second-guessing this because I wanted him. I was intrigued by the heart I saw under this man who was afraid to pursue what he wanted. I wished I’d met him when he was younger, less jaded, and open to possibilities. But something inside me wanted to peel back the layers and find that guy again.

Mac cradled the back of my head as he gazed at me with so much tenderness and wonder. “Are you sure?”

“I’ve never been surer of anything.” It was a combination of what he’d done for us, the expression on his face when he danced with Delaney, and what he described he’d given up on. I wanted to see the man underneath.

CHAPTER12

MAC

I’ve never been surer of anything.

Natalie’s words pumped through my veins, urging me on. This was the right move. I wanted Natalie, and she felt the same.

When Natalie’s lips parted, I lowered mine to hers, gently exploring, giving her a chance to pull away, to tell me this was a mistake. But when she didn’t, I pulled her closer to me with a hand on her hip.

It was a heady feeling to have her pressed against me. She moaned, opening up for more.

I usually only slept with women I was in a relationship with or intended to be with. This was the first time I wasn’t sure, but it felt right.

I backed her up until her knees hit the edge of the couch, never taking my lips from hers. I turned us so that I sat on the couch, looking up at her.

I tugged her arm, and she came willingly, straddling my hips. When her warm center touched my aching dick, I almost lost it. Nothing felt as good as her in my lap.

She rose up over me, her hands tangling in the hair at the base of my neck, her lower body undulating over my dick. I felt constrained by our clothes. I eased back slightly and raised a brow as I played with the hem of her shirt.

“Please.” Her voice was husky, and I wondered how much lower it would go when my mouth was on her pussy.

My dick twitched at the thought. She must have felt the movement because she bit her lip, and her eyes glazed over with lust.

I slowly pulled the shirt over her head, marveling at her breasts that threatened to spill over a blush-colored bra. Sweet and feminine, just like her.

I cupped her breasts, rubbing a thumb over the already hard bud.

Natalie’s breath hitched.

Keeping eye contact, I moved closer so I could suck on the material covering her nipple. She arched her back as if she enjoyed my mouth on her.

Her fingers twisted in my hair as she dropped her head back. She was so responsive, so passionate. I couldn’t imagine why her ex walked away unless he wasn’t the man for her.
