Alice paused to look at me. “You’re doing this to create an inviting house for people to stay. To create memories.”

“That too,” I said, sighing as Alice brushed over my face with blush.

“You’re too wrapped up in the end result. You need to relax and imagine the B&B filled with guests, tired from a day of walking in Telluride and enjoying the backyard. You’re going to make people happy.”

The muscles in my back slowly relaxed one by one. “That sounds nice.”

“It’s what you’re going to tell the reporter today when she asks. But you need to believe it and stop brushing it off. That’s your why. It’s not just to support you and Delaney.”

“Yeah, I get that.”

“Do you? Because if you get too wrapped up in bookings and money, you’re going to drive yourself crazy. You’re not going to be fulfilled or happy. You’re going to be stressed out.”

I smiled at her in the mirror. “Like I am now.”

“Yes.”

“Okay. I’ll try to relax and remember why I’m doing this.”

We were quiet for a minute while Alice worked, then she said, “I’m excited about the B&B opening. I’ll get more traffic for my store, and we can offer weekly workshops for the new guests.”

“I’m excited for you.” I hugged Alice.

“You’ve got this. Just don’t forget your why.”

“I won’t. Thank you, guys, for being here to support me. I couldn’t have done this today without you.”

“And accept more help. You have Mac and his family too.”

“I don’t want to assume or lean too hard on them. I want to be independent.”

“You have nothing to prove. You are doing it, and a smart business owner delegates. My old boss was great at that.” Kylie made a face, and I wondered if she bore the brunt of the work while her manager reaped the rewards.

I wished she’d talk to me about what happened in Paris. But today wasn’t the day to delve into her past. I had a ribbon to cut and a party to hold.

I just wished I’d gotten more sleep. I should have listened to everyone around me who was just worried about my well-being. When I stood, I felt light-headed.

Alice grabbed my arm. “Have you eaten?”

“I don’t think so.” I swallowed, suddenly feeling nauseous. It was probably my empty stomach and nerves.

“I’ll make you a sandwich,” Alice said, hurrying out of the room.

Kylie sat on my bed. “Are you okay?”

“I will be.” As soon as I got through this. Just thinking about cameras and reporters made my stomach situation worse.

“We’ll be by your side all day.”

“Thank you for that. I couldn’t do this without you.” But after today, I’d need to. I’d be responsible for everything: checking in and out guests, taking care of any issues or problems, cleaning the rooms, and the list went on and on.

“That’s what friends are for. Besides, I was the one who convinced you this was a great idea.”

“It’s still a good idea.” I smiled to reassure her, but it felt weak.

“Is it?” Kylie leveled me with a concerned gaze. “You seem overwhelmed.”

“I’ve got this.” My pulse fluttered in my neck, and I felt perilously close to a panic attack.
