“I know,” Vivian agreed. “And there’s no one more special to all of us than you.”

“Flattery will get you nowhere, woman.”

“Come on,” Vivian pleaded. “Do it for the baby.”

Vivian rubbed her big belly. Her sister-in-law looked further along than six months. Her belly was huge. Tiera knew better than to say that to her, though. Tiera took in her sister-in-law’s outfit. Vivian’s pregnancy fashion was sleek and stylish.

Her black dress dropped to her knees. It was form-fitting but not tight at all. It looked both comfortable and fashionable. Vivian no longer wore the high heels she loved. She’d replaced them with black flats.

“Your outfit is cute,” Tiera complimented her.

A huge smile spread across Vivian’s face.

“Thank you. My mother purchased it online at a maternity store. When I first saw it, I thought I would hate it. Then I tried it on and fell in love with it. Most maternity clothes make me feel like a shapeless cow. The clothing from this site doesn’t. I feel pretty today.”

“You’re pretty every day,” Tiera told her. “Pregnant women have a beauty even nature can’t surpass.”

“Thank you. But flattery will get you nowhere.”

“Well, I tried.”

“Please, Tiera. Help a sister out. You said you were taking a break from being a travel nurse. You also said you’d be staying in town all summer. Since you’re here, why not earn some money by working for the company.”

“I don’t even know how to begin being Caleb’s secretary.”

“Terrence said when they first started the company, you worked as their secretary.”

“Yeah, that was when it was just the two of them and one client. They couldn’t afford to hire help, and I’d dropped my design classes and was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Now, I’ve gotten my life on track. And their company has grown. They have an entire staff, shareholders, board members, and other departments I know nothing about. I don’t think I’m the right woman for the job.”

“You’re the only woman for the job. I have no one else. You don’t have to worry about shareholders or anything. You only need to answer the phone and take notes during meetings. And I’ll only be a phone call away. Though I won’t be in the office, I’ll be working from home and available to you twenty-four-seven. Come on, Tiera. Please help me.”

Vivian stared at her with puppy dog eyes. Tiera really didn’t want to be Caleb’s secretary. But this company belonged to her brother too. She couldn’t allow Caleb’s bad attitude to ruin everything he and her brother had built while Terrence was away. Tiera took a deep breath and released it slowly.

“Oh, thank you! Thank you!” Vivian hugged her.

“I didn’t agree yet.”

“That deep breath was answer enough.”

“Know this,” Tiera said. “I won’t put up with Caleb’s mess.”

“Feel free to curse him out as much as you like. Just don’t hit him while on Fitzgerald and Wright grounds. However, when you leave the premises, hit him all you want.”

“I’m not going through HR and becoming an official employee either.”

“You don’t have to. Terrence has you listed as a PRN employee.”

“You mean he never took me out of the system?”

Vivian released a breath. “Of course not. You’re also a shareholder.”

“I know that. I told him he didn’t have to make me one.”

“Well, you’re one. So, you only have to sign a few papers. I sent them to your email right before I came into the restaurant. You can start first thing Monday morning. This weekend, you can go out and buy some business outfits. I’m pretty sure you don’t have any.”

“You’re right. I don’t. And I don’t want to waste money on clothing I’m only going to wear for a short while. Two weeks max.”

“You don’t have to spend your money. Caleb agreed to pay for them for you.”
