“Take your anger out on me. She’s innocent,” Sandro pleads. Never, in all this time, have I heard him so desperate. So vulnerable. “Hurt her, and I’ll kill you.”

The stranger and I lock eyes. He’s a mess, a beautiful, wild mess. “You’re Sandro’s twin.”

“The question is, who the hell are you?”

“You’ve got five seconds to climb off her before I shoot.”

I can see the surprise … and hurt … in Renzo’s eyes.

“He loves you more than anything,” I murmur. “Please.”

Within a blink, Renzo seems to relax. “Holy fuck,” he mutters, then raises his voice once more. “After the bullshit you pulled, your constant interference in my life, my business, name one good reason why I should spare her?”

“Because I fucking love her.”

My lips part.

Renzo smirks.

And Sandro drops his gun, then hauls his twin off me.

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

The three of us eat leftover gnocchi at the kitchen island and pretend a bomb didn’t just detonate in the living area.

Renzo keeps eyeing me with a savage smirk like I’m the eighth Wonder of the World.

Sandro’s gaze is searching, like I tricked him into declaring his feelings.

Awkward and vulnerable, I avoid eye contact altogether.

“What’s her name?” Renzo politely asks. A far cry from the crazy person who took out two guards earlier. A tracking device hangs from his ankle. Sandro’s men dragged him to the villa, and Sandro secured it on him before he broke free. And I slept through nearly the whole thing.

“Her name’s Riley,” I mutter.

Renzo laughs.

“Don’t,” Sandro warns, only spurring on more laughter.

“Holy freaking hell. So protective. It’s always you dishing out ill will. You do love her.”

Silence from Sandro, and my stomach drops. Was it a lie, then?

“Look at me, Riley.”

I lift my chin and meet his somber regard.

“This isn’t how this should go down …”

“No shit,” Renzo interrupts.

“Shut up,” Sandro mutters. “But …”

“Glad you invited me over for this freaking Hallmark moment.”

“Be quiet,” I say. “Let him … say it.”

“Know what? I like her. Sure, her aim sucks. But she went after me … me, the eldest son of Sebastiano Beneventi.”
