I propped myself on an elbow. “Are you saying I can’t use my abilities?”

“That is precisely what I’m saying.”

I glowered at him. “How is that fair? I spend my whole life powerless, and now that I have the power of two practically dead magical lines, I can’t explore it?”

“Not until we figure out how to get away from my family. I will not let you end up like my mother, which is exactly what they’ll do to you if they find out what you can do. You’ll become a weapon of mass destruction, and they’ll rip you away from me.”

The pained look on his face made me gulp. “What are we going to do, then? Your uncle is an ancient king of hell. He’s mighty and will never allow us to just walk away. We’ll never be free of him.”

“Then I will do what I must.”

“Which is?”

“I must kill the king of hell.”
