“Father, it’s Niyah.”

“How much?” he demands.

“How much what?”

“How much money do my blackmailers want? That better be why you’re calling because if you aren’t kidnapped, that means you ran away, leaving your job unfinished.”

The disappointment that fills me shouldn’t surprise me. At every opportunity, my father acts the role of a mob boss, never the father.

“No, Father, there is no blackmailer,” I whisper.

Aris’ hand flexes around my knee. I glance up to see his jaw clenching. He takes a few seconds to get himself under control. When he peers down at me, alarm shoots up my spine.

“If there’s no blackmailer, that means you ran. How long do you think you and your sisters can last on your own?”

The nature of the hold Aris has on my thigh changes. He pushes his hand between my thighs. I stare at him in shock, but he is undeterred.

“Niyah! You have a chance to save yourself from the consequences of defying me if you return home now.”

“I can’t do—” I gasp as Aris reaches my panties and slides underneath to reach my clit. “That,” I finish.

“The hell you can’t. The Arroyos know you and your sisters are missing and are using this opportunity as an excuse to launch attacks on my businesses.”

Aris pushes a finger inside me. To stifle the soft sounds from escaping my mouth, I bury my face into his neck.

“Now, more than ever, you need to marry into that family.”

“Father, I can’t… I’m already married.”

Dead silence meets my confession. On my end of the conversation, Aris finger fucking me consumes my attention. I twist his shirt, trying not to reveal to the man on the other end what I’m letting happen to me.

“Married? Who the hell do you know that would marry you?”

“Aris Glezos,” my husband bites, joining the conversation for the first time.

“The matchmaker? You have some fucking nerve. I don’t know how you did it, but I will hunt you down and destroy you for taking what doesn’t belong to you.”

“You must not know about me,” Aris says with a world’s worth of confidence.

“I don’t need some nobody swinging his dick around. Niyah has a job to do that comes before anything else, including you. She better do whatever it takes to get it done. I’ll give you two days to fix this shit fest and get back to business, do you hear me Niyah?”

“Do yourself a favor Lavaughnn, and ask about To Syndikáto. I expect you to humble yourself the next time we speak.” Aris disconnects the call and drops the phone. “Now where were we?”

“I can’t believe you did that?”

“What? Show your father that he doesn’t scare me? Or this?” He increases his thrusts until I come, shaking in his arms.

When the ability to breathe returns, I surrender without challenging him. There’s no point when my body feels weightless and deep satisfaction filters everything in sight with twinkling stars.

Aris kisses my forehead and fumbles around for the phone he’d dropped. “You should call your sisters. It’s up to you how much you want to tell them, but I’m sure they will be reassured to hear your voice.” At my skeptical glance, he says, “I’ll behave.”

With the caution of a woman facing down a deadly cobra, I reach for the phone. “Will you demand that I talk to them on speakerphone, too?”

“No, in fact, I have some things to take care of.” He displaces me to stand. With a farewell kiss, he leaves me in the study.

When Ferb pads over to me, I realize we had an audience.

“Don’t judge me.” I scratch behind his ears, feeling his acceptance.
