Dani smiled. “I’m a big fan of her cinnamon rolls,” she said. “The kitchen is that way. Follow me,” and then talked all the way. “This is so kind of you. The movers got everything inside quickly, but I swear to God, I don’t think a one of them could read. I wasted my time labeling boxes when I was packing because it’s all mixed up. Kitchen stuff is in my bedroom. My bedroom stuff is in the office. And the books and lamps that go in the living room are all over the kitchen floor.”

Shirley saw all the boxes, then laughed and gave her a quick hug.

“You’re right! What a mess, but we do know how to read, and we’ll have you sorted out in no time.”

Sean and Wiley didn’t wait for orders. They just started opening bags and putting food into the refrigerator, and left the box of cookies on the island.

Dani blinked and then stepped aside to keep from getting in the way.

Aaron walked up beside her. “They’re a little overwhelming, but they’re highly capable, okay?”

Dani sighed. “No need to worry. Your family is darling, and I’m so grateful. Thank you for everything.”

Aaron kept watching her expression, seeing everything from delight to utter confusion. He wanted to hug her, to tell her everything was going to be okay, but he didn’t. And the moment passed.

“Where to first?” he said.

“Honestly? Just getting the boxes into the right rooms is a priority. After that, we can open them. I’m going to have to call someone to hook up all my electronics. I have the stuff. I just don’t know how to do it.”

Aaron grinned. “Oh, you’re gonna love this. Sean! Tell Dani what you do for a living.”

Sean turned. “Uh, I’m an IT specialist. I have an office at home and a growing list of new clients. Why?”

“Because Dani has an office and a television just waiting for hookups.”

Sean looked at Dani. “Are the services already on?”

“I’ve been assured they are. I’ve already set up accounts and paid the fees,” she said.

Sean all but clapped his hands with glee. “Then I’m your man,” he said.

“Exactly,” Aaron said. “When it comes to technology, Sean is in his element.”

“Oh my gosh, that’s great!” Dani said.

The impulse to throw her arms around him was huge, but she didn’t. He was just the cop being nice.

“Do you want us to start by getting boxes into the right rooms first?” he asked.

“Please,” Dani said. “I’m going to finish making my bed while that’s happening.”

“I’ll help,” Shirley said. “Two can do it faster,” and followed Dani out of the kitchen.

The brothers began grabbing boxes and carrying them to the proper locations, leaving Aaron still locked into the sight of her dimples and what they did to hisheart when she smiled. Then he realized all the action was elsewhere, grabbed a big box marked OFFICE, and carried it out of the room.

Dani’s initial shyness disappeared the moment Shirley grabbed the top sheet, unfolded it, and gave it a flip. The sheet spread out and then floated down across the top of the bed like a feather.

Dani’s eyes widened. “Wow. That’s a skill I have yet to master.”

Shirley grinned. “A skill that comes with making many beds for four little rough-and-tumble boys. Do you like the ends tucked in at the foot or left hanging?”

“Hanging please. Tucked always makes me feel like I’m being restrained.”

Shirley laughed. “Well, there you are! My boys are the same way. They grew tall so fast that they outgrew their beds along with their clothes.”

Dani smiled, trying to picture the four big men in her house as little boys.

“I can see how that might happen,” she said, and together she and Shirley finished making her bed.
