This moment had been a long time coming for both of them, and the timeline of when they’d met no longer mattered.

Aaron felt whole again.

Dani felt safe again.

They were already in love but had yet to say the words, and at the moment, thinking was out of the question.

There was nothing between them but the feeling.

Rocking body to body, chasing that single moment when the blood-rush hits.

Muscles tightening.

Nerves burning.

Bodies humming from the energy they’d built between them.

Riding the high.

Holding on to that high because it hurt so good.

And then the tipping point!

Time stopped.

Breath caught as the climax rolled through them.

For that moment, they were one.

Dani moaned and held him tighter.

Aaron collapsed and buried his face in the curve of her neck.

With sweat dripping from their bodies, they lay entwined, motionless, waiting for their heartbeats to catch up.

Finally, he rose up long enough to look at her.

Her eyelids fluttered as she finally opened her eyes and caught him—watching her.

“Oh my God,” she whispered.

Aaron sighed. “Can you walk?”

“I don’t think I can even stand,” she said.

He rolled out of bed and then scooped her up into his arms.

“Where are you taking me?” Dani asked.

“To shower,” he said as he crossed the hall and deposited her in the shower. “I’m turning on the water. Don’t fall.”

Dani sat down on the side of the tub, and once the water got warm, Aaron stepped into the tub with her, pulled the shower curtain, and took her into his arms to steady her, then stepped into the spray.

She was in his arms, her cheek against his chest, standing entwined as the shower spray sluiced the sweat from their bodies, cooling everything, including ardor, and leaving them sated in every way.

Long after he was gone, and she was back in bed alone, she couldn’t sleep. What happened between them made her feel alive again. Whole again.

Impulsively, she reached for her phone and sent him a text.
