“And what about Atticus?”

Cian let out a bitter laugh. “I’m not sure. His father is probably making him fuck a whore so he can get you out of his system. Not sure what’s so special about your pussy, but apparently you’ve got that man’s dick in a vise grip.”

“Shut up,” I snapped.

I looked at August, who nodded. Before we could get out of here, we had to take down the four guards escorting Leo, and they were headed this way now.

“Collect all his weapons, August. I’m going to need them.”

He nodded and went through a duffel bag on the ground while I rotated the sword I’d stolen in my fist.

August paused. “I’m not…like Atticus or Leo,” he murmured while pulling out a hammer. “I can’t fight.” The shame in his tone made me pause.

“What kind of weak fucking king can’t fight?” Cian asked.

I rotated the hilt of the sword and hit him in the side of the head with it, knocking the torturing asshole out.

“I watched you beat the shit out of that guy freshman year for touching my ass in the hallway. You can fight. And you’ve always fought for me, August.”

The concern on his face softened for a moment. I knew he could do this. He always stepped up for me.

The sound of a door opening and boots stomping downstairs made us both go still. “You ready?” he asked me while gripping the hammer.

“Let the fun begin,” I replied before kicking open the door to the cell and sprinting toward the group of men.

I whipped out the sharpened blade in my hand as I charged forward, finding Leo in the center ring of DuPont guards. He was ashen but alive. His eyes met mine for a split second before he darted to the side. The moment he moved, I screamed a guttural battle cry, and the guards’ bodies locked in place, shock and confusion on their faces. It took a moment, but one raised their gun and aimed at me.

With blazing speed, I evaded their gunfire and charged toward the nearest one, swiping my sword across his throat and shoving him to the ground.

August bellowed as he swung his hammer with violent force, smashing the second guard. As if driven by an unseen power and rage, I used the sword to tear through the Kevlar vest of the third guard before knocking him out with a hard kick to the back of his head.

Their bullets rained around us, narrowly missing me. With one last swipe of my blade, I pierced the fourth guard’s flesh, and he roared in agony as I cut into him. August raised the hammer in his grip and slammed it down on his skull, killing him almost instantly.

I took a few seconds to catch my breath and glanced at my arm where a bullet grazed it. “I’m okay,” I said to August, despite the searing pain. “Just one more.”

I flexed my fingers around the hilt of my sword and glanced at Leo, his body tense. A DuPont guard held a dagger to his throat, a sneer marring his face. He shifted his attention between August and me, the dagger never leaving Leo’s neck.

“I’ll kill him! I’ll do it,” the guard growled.

My eyes hardened and I moved before either August or Leo had time to blink. My blade glided through the air like a feather and pierced the guard’s eye socket in an instant. Blood sprayed over Leo, and the guard fell in a heap, his cry of agony ringing in my ears.

August let out a strangled sound of horror, but we didn’t have time to waste. I quickly scanned both my men for injuries and then spun on my heel toward the stairs.

“We need to get out of here,” Leo said with urgency, picking up a gun from the dead man’s hand.

I nodded. “Lord Nathan has this place surrounded with his men,” I said grimly.

“I can navigate us through the storm tunnels,” August said. “They lead a few miles out of the city and are complex. People get lost in them all the time; it would be easy to lose them.”

“And you know the way?” Leo asked.

August paled but nodded. “Mostly.”

“Then let’s go,” I snapped.

Leo and August struggled to keep up with my quick pace as we climbed the stairs leading out of the dungeon. At the top, a large guard was sleeping in a chair, completely unaware of what had transpired below us.

Leo looked at him for a moment before retrieving a dagger and slicing the man’s neck in one swift motion. A gush of blood coated his hands, and I tightened my grip on Cian’s sword, ready to face whatever danger awaited us outside the castle walls.
