“Not for you,” he said.

“Clearly. I mean for you. You do know that you’re allowed to have hard limits, right?”

“Yes, I’m aware,” he said dryly. “And neither of these are items that I initially marked as hard nos.”

“Okay… Can you just tell me what they are?”

“Your patience is noted.”

“I will shake the information out of you.”

She wanted to make him laugh, but his expression didn’t change. He looked at her with a focused intensity that wasn’t swayed by her teasing.

Something akin to fear curled in her gut. What the hell were their items?

“The first,” he said slowly, “is a religious scene.”

She blinked. “Religious scene? That’s on there? I do not remember that.”

“It is. More specifically, it’s listed as ‘religious scene’, and then in parentheses ‘priest, priestess, etc.’.”

“Oh, okay. That I remember. I remember focusing on the word priestess and thinking that could probably be sexy.”

“I will admit that I don’t remember why I didn’t mark it as a hard limit on my own list, but I don’t find the idea of pretending to be a Christian priest at all appealing.”

“Agreed, though I read this one book… But yeah, I don’t want you to pretend to be a priest either.”

“Good. Let me think about what you said about priestess.”

“I was thinking more along the lines of made-up fantasy. The priestess of the golden flower who’s forced to submit to the invading warlord in order to save her people.”

Ilias’s brows rose. “That is incredibly specific.”

“I read a lot.”

“Let me think about it,” he said.

“Of course. And seriously, I don’t want to do anything that’s a hard limit for you. Even if it was my number one fantasy, knowing that my partner didn’t want it would kill it for me.”

He nodded, then dropped his attention to his hands, which were laced together cradling the bowl of his red wineglass.

“Like I said, we still have quite a few items, rubber clothing, rope scene.”

“Is rope the other problematic one?”

“No. Though I think Master Morton finds it problematic that shibari isn’t one of the letter ‘s’ items.”

“It’s not?”

“No. Instead it’s listed under rope. Our item is ‘rope’ parenthesis ‘bondage, shabari, clothing.’”

“That’s…odd.”

“Agreed.”

There was a moment of silence, and Josslyn’s curiosity was morphing to a mild anxiety.

Finally, Ilias sighed and looked up, his gaze meeting hers.
