The proposal wasn’t horribly delivered, but I'd hoped for better after how smoothly the first part had gone. Unsure of Waurlyn’s thoughts, I waited for some clue.

“The benefits are hard to ignore,” she said. “But we’re all aware that everyone I answer to will see the risk for what it is. That Molev is leaving and not returning.”

“Then don’t tell them,” I said. “Not yet. Michael’s trial might be the miracle we’re all hoping for. And if it isn’t, Molev still has thousands of people to meet and train. It will take weeks to weed through everyone and help train the personnel you need. Panicked bureaucrats will only slow the process down at this point. Give Molev more time to gain your trust. He hasn’t broken his word yet, has he?”

“No. He hasn’t,” she agreed. “All right. Since this was a brainstorming idea only to help with the issues you noted, I’ll hold off on disclosing the details of this request. Please notify me if you have any other ideas to help with resources or the vaccine.” She stood. “If you’ll excuse me, I’d like to discuss with the doctor the possibility of diverse samples and what they would mean for the research.”

We followed her out the door and left, stopping to speak with a few soldiers who had questions for Molev about the training sessions. Once we were outside, he picked me up again. Instead of returning to the house, he brought me to the one next door to it, breaking the lock to enter.

“Pretty sure that’s going to get us into trouble,” I said.

His gaze swept the empty room as he stood in the opening. He nudged the door shut behind him and strode farther into the house until he found a bedroom.

I swallowed hard, understanding what he had in mind.

“Molev, I don’t think this is a good idea.”

He placed me on my feet next to the bed and started removing my jacket.

“I’m serious. The lock’s broken. Our neighbors probably saw you break it. How long until they come barging in to see why? I really don’t want to be caught with my pants down, do you?”

“Finish undressing. I’ll fix the door.” He disappeared, and I crossed my arms.

“Molev, I don’t care if you fix the door or not. I’m not ready for sex yet. I’m sorry if last night misled you into thinking I was. I just wanted to…I don’t know. Do something fun and feel a little more connected. Baby steps, not jump straight into bed.”

He reappeared, his vivid green gaze sweeping over my clothed body in silent judgment.

“We are not here to have sex, Andie. Although, I would welcome it if you wish to change your mind.”

“Nope. No mind-changing. Why are we here then?”

“I want to taste you again. But this time, I want to hear each soft sigh and desperate groan as I draw pleasure from you again and again.”

He had my attention.

“So, just oral?” I asked.

“Just my tongue loving your pussy.”

I unzipped my pants.

“I guess I’ll let you have your way this time.”

CHAPTERTHREE

He watchedme with hooded eyes as I removed each item of clothing. When I stood naked in the cool room, my breasts briefly drew his attention.

“I like every detail about you, Andie. Your pretty sky-blue eyes. The sandy brown color of your hair. The shape of your body. The way you think. The way you resist. The way you defer to me.”

The growing bulge in his pants jumped at that last part.

“What were you thinking just now?” I asked.

“I pictured you on the bed, your delicate legs spread wide in surrender.”

I sat on the bed, reclining on my elbows and lifting my feet to the edge. His lips curled back in a silent snarl as I slowly let my knees fall as far to either side as they would go.

“Like this?” I asked.
