The soup was steaming on the stove when Molev wrapped his arms around me from behind and kissed the side of my neck.

“You eat,” I said. “It’s my turn to shower. I feel like I have dust everywhere.”

He let me go, and I basked in a lukewarm shower.

When I emerged, he was waiting for me with a mug of still-steaming soup. A mattress and a dresser blocked the hallways.

His gaze swept over me, and I glimpsed his worry.

“Do you think they made it out?” I asked softly.

He threaded his fingers through mine and led me to the bedroom.

“I have no answer for that,” he said as he sat on the bed.

I sipped my soup, studying him. He was tired. For the first time, I saw circles under his eyes.

“We’re on the second floor. You’ve blocked the hallway. How about you get some sleep? You look like you need it.”

He plucked the cup from my fingers and set it aside before falling back with me sprawled on top of him.

I looked down at him and saw his plea. He needed me. It wasn’t only a physical need but a balm to help him forget.

Straddling him, I removed my shirt then leaned down to kiss him gently. His hands settled on my hips as he kissed me back.

Hours later, I lay next to him, studying his sleep-relaxed face.

The last several months didn’t seem real. Hellhounds, fey, infected, my part in everything that had happened to save the people I loved. But most of all, it was Molev who didn’t seem real. A man who might not understand every decision I made, but one who would love me no matter what.

I snuggled closer and listened to the sounds outside.

Everything was quiet. No howls. No moans.

Just Molev’s soft breathing.

Molev’s fingerstoyed with my bare nipple, and I hummed my approval as I woke up.

“Sounds like rain,” I said, threading my fingers through his hair when his mouth closed over me.

He grunted and scraped his teeth against my sensitive skin.

“We can stay here and finish what you started, or we can get up and head out so we’re in our own bed tonight.”

He growled lightly and drew hard on my nipple before releasing it with a pop.

I smoothed my hand along his jaw and touched his frown line.

“You know everyone back home is going to be worried until we show up and tell them what happened.”

He sighed, rolled away, and sat on the edge of the bed.

I got to my knees and wrapped my arms around his neck from behind.

“Once we’re home and everything’s settled, we can lock ourselves in our house for a week so you can have your way with me without interruption,”I said. Then for good measure, I lightly bit his earlobe.

He groaned, and I grinned.
