“Have I mentioned how much I hate cardio?”she panted.

“At least a dozen times,” Brandon said, watching the craft with the rest of us.

The door opened, and a woman stepped out.She was wearing a business suit, which seemed so ridiculously out of place yet sent a clear message. This wasn’t a person who was living in fear every day. This was someone from one of the sanctuaries.

“Based on her clothes, she’s someone important,” I said to Molev.

He grunted and remained beside us as the woman strode toward the military personnel waiting for her.I could see by the uniforms that they were officers but had no idea about their ranks.Thankfully, I didn’t see the general among them.

Before the woman reached them, she noticed our group. Her steps faltered, and she started to go down.Molev disappeared and was at her side just before she would have hit the pavement. She stared up at him for a beat, nodded her head, and started talking.

I itched to join them but held myself in check. After all, he’d specifically asked for my trust during situations like this. So, I waited, and I watched.

When she stepped back, she held out her hand to Molev. He shook it and indicated the rest of us.She nodded, and he jogged back.

“She would like to speak with us and agreed to come to our assigned house, so we know it is not a trap,” he said.

“Good thinking,” Sid said as I marveled at just how well Molev understood human thought.

“Please tell me we don’t have to run all the way back there,” Katie said.

Molev looked her over.“Would you like me to carry you?”

“God, yes.”

“Damn it,” Roni said.“Why didn’t I think of that?”

She smirked at Molev, but it didn’t have its previous hungry aggression.

Fortunately, no one needed to be carried. The woman sent two vehicles our way, and we got a lift to our house with her leading the way.She didn’t bat an eye when Molev opened the door for her and let her enter first.

“Can we get you anything to drink or eat?”Roland asked.

“Water, please. It was a long flight,” she said, moving to the couch.

I tried to place her accent and couldn’t.

Roland went to the kitchen with Katie. She returned with the drink as he started pulling out food for dinner.Rude or not, I doubted he cared. We were all starving after that workout and dead on our feet.Which was why I sat next to the well-dressed woman on the couch and made introductions.

“I’m Andie. This is Katie, Sid, Brandon, Roni, Steve, and Roland in the kitchen there. And you’ve already met Molev.”

“Pleasure to meet you all.I’m Waurlyn.”She looked at Molev.“I’ve heard a lot about you, and I must admit it doesn’t paint a pretty picture.”

“Tell me what you’ve heard, and we will tell you if it’s true,” Molev said, crossing his arms.

“You’re immune and came here under the pretense of cooperation but haven’t cooperated.”

Molev didn’t say anything. He didn’t have to.The rest of the team reacted with muttered words and general expressions of anger.

“Let me guess.Tom’s report?”I asked.

She nodded.“And Patrick’s.”

I appreciated that she’d used their first names.

“It’s an unfair assessment,” I said.“Imagine that Tom needed a kidney and you were his match. But he’s not happy with the one kidney you’re offering.Even though one is all he needs to save himself, he wants them both. What would you do?”

“Not give him both kidneys,” she said.
