“A little.”

He reached out, probably intending to grab my chin again.I caught his hand before he could.

“Don’t let your guard down. Not even when things start going well.Promise me.”

He looked at the table and smiled.

“I fully trust you, Andie. When will you fully trust me?”

“When you stop putting yourself in danger to save every woman you meet,” I said dryly.“Don’t think I’ve been blind to what you’ve been doing. And you’re lucky Roni hasn’t hit you yet for your macho act.”

His lips parted in a full-blown grin.

“Roni is biding her time. She knows I am not the one for her and is saving her fight for one of my brothers.”

I cringed a little, already imagining Roni trying to coax another one of them into bed.

“I thought you liked your brothers.”

“I do.”

“Do you think they’re going to appreciate being groped by Roni any more than you did?”

“Very much.Any of my brothers would welcome her attention and quickly accept her offer. The one she chooses will find ways to appease her fierce heart without allowing her to endanger herself.”

“Uh, that sounds like someone might be getting his ass kicked.Roni isn’t the sit-at-home and be-idle type.”

“She will learn.”

I snorted and shook my head.

“This is exactly what I was talking about. She’s not going to want to be forced into a role any more than I do.And this way of thinking is why I’m warning you about Waurlyn.Yes, you’re clever and see a lot, but when it comes to women, I think you don’t see as clearly.”

Molev sighed and turned his hand in mine, stroking my fingers.

“I think we have a misunderstanding. If Roni wishes to hunt infected, no one would stop her. However, each of my brothers would shield her from harm.”

“Just like you’ve been doing for us,” I said.

He exhaled heavily.“Just as I’ve tried doing.”

“Don’t blame yourself for what happened to Tamra. We knew the risks when we signed up for this mission. You didn’t kill her.Neither did Sid.”

Molev’s gaze lifted from our joined hands to meet mine.

“Finish eating,” he said.“You need rest.”

“Maybe if you joined in, you would need more rest too.”

“Maybe,” he said, releasing my hand so I could do as he’d asked.

When I finished, he insisted on washing my plate and told me to get ready for bed.I was just settling under the covers when he came in and turned off the lights.

The bed dipped as he eased in behind me.

“I hope they find a cure soon,” I said softly.“Each day that passes, we’re losing more people. And it’s hard not to feel guilty about that when we’re sitting here doing nothing.”

Molev’s warm arm settled over my waist.
