I closed my eyes and sighed. We were at an impasse, neither of us willing to see the other person’s side.

“Fine, Molev.Tell me exactly where we stand so I know what I’m not supposed to retreat from.”

He made another angry sound before his hand was back in my hair.

“I think I’ll show you.”

My eyes flew open just before his lips crashed down onto mine.He didn’t give an inch as his mouth demanded everything I had to give. And I did give. There wasn’t any other choice. The moment he felt me trying to withdraw, he pulled me closer, wrapping my legs around his waist. The next time I tried, he pressed his hand against my ass to grind his hard length against my core.

I got the hint after that.He would stop demanding more if I just surrendered to what Iwaswilling to give.

Framing his face with my hands, I slowed the kiss instead of trying to stop it.He immediately eased up.That insane, hungry part of me wanted the aggression back. The reasonable side whispered that this wasn’t the time or the place.I kissed him tenderly and tried to ignore the ache growing in my chest when he returned everything I gave.

When he finally pulled back, my lips felt swollen, and I could barely think straight.

His hungry gaze swept over my face, missing nothing.

“No more retreating,” he said.

“Do I have a choice?”

The corner of his mouth twitched.

“No.”

“Didn’t think so,” I muttered.“Now, can we go down?I’m hungry, and they’re probably still waiting for us.”

He leaned in and kissed my forehead, adding to that ache in my chest.

“No more retreating,” he repeated.

“I’m not retreating.I’m asking you to carry me down—nicely this time—so we can eat.”

His gaze held mine for a long moment, and I crossed my arms.

“You suddenly don’t trust me?”I asked.

“I trust you with everything but listening to your own heart.”

He swept me off my feet in one fluid move and looked down at me.

“When you retreat, it’s in your heart and in your mind. You allow one to control the other and rarely allow the effects of either to show on the outside. So when I say no more retreating, I mean in your heart and in your mind. Not your body.”

He jumped down from the roof before I could answer and jogged over to where we’d left the others. The soldier that I’d sent Steve to get was with them, his attention bouncing between me and Molev.

The rest of the group was a bit more subdued in their interest regarding what they’d witnessed.Roland wore a slight smirk.Katie looked shocked. And Roni just subtly shook her head at me as Molev put me down.

“Where’s the mess hall?”I asked, looking pointedly at the soldier.

“This way,” he said.

I started to take a step and felt Molev’s hand close around the back of my neck.It was enough to make me realize I had already mentally distanced myself from what happened on the roof and the present moment.

Rather than try to deny it, I sighed and slipped my arm around his waist.

“This is crossing into ridiculous,” I muttered.

His low chuckle wrapped around me.
