I open my eyes. “The things I’m saying to you? I haven’t said anything like this before to anyone.”

“Oh, I see. Then women just fall into your bed when you smile at them.”

“Into my bed? What are you talking about?”

Isavelle’s eyes open wide. “Well, um…the women before me. You’ve obviously had a lot of experience.”

“With women? I’ve never had any experience. Is it usual for human men to have a lot of lovers? Betas do in our culture, but Alphas tend to obsess over their Omega even when they haven’t met them.” And for long after they should have given up hoping for one, in some cases.

Isavelle stares at me in astonishment. “You mean you haven’t…? But that can’t be right. You’re so good at, um…all the ways you touch me. Everything you do feels amazing.”

The reason for that is because we’re meant for each other.

“You’re the only girl I’ve ever…” I brush my thumb over her lips and murmur softly, “kissed.”

Isavelle’s mouth falls open. “But…but you’re a grown man, and you swagger around like you’ve just left three women dazed and exhausted in your bed.”

I burst out laughing. “What does that even look like?”

Isavelle’s cheeks turn pink. “You told me to wait in your tent after you stole me from the Brethren. I assumed you were going to try and bed me right away.”

“Mm, yes, I hoped I would,” I murmur, brushing my lips over hers. “But only because you’re my Omega. I don’t go around stealing women as a habit. You were the first and only, and I knew who you were right away, remember?”

Isavelle caresses my cheek. “You didn’t even know my name.”

I turn my head and kiss her fingertips. “When a pair who are fated to be together find each other, all sorts of things can happen before they’ve even asked each other their names. I might know a few more details about Alphas and Omegas than you do, but I’m running on pure instinct.”

“They’re good instincts,” she says shyly.

“I could say the same about you,” I murmur, amused.

“You really never even kissed another woman?” she asks.

I press the tip of my nose against hers and whisper, “I already told you. I was waiting for you, Omega.”

“But you’re…really lovely at kissing.”

A delighted smile spreads over my face. “Thank you. I have imagined kissing you a thousand times, so that’s probably why. I’m listening to what my body wants. What your body wants. What feels amazing. It all feels fucking amazing to me.”

Isavelle strokes her fingers over my lips, then presses her mouth to mine. Softly, sweetly.

My Omega is kissing me after her terrible night.

I close my eyes and let her control the kiss. She caresses the bow of my lip with her tongue, and then sucks briefly on my lower lip, before pressing a dozen wet kisses all over my mouth.

“What about you?” I ask, opening my eyes.

“I kissed a boy on harvest night two years ago. It wasn’t very nice. Our teeth clashed.”

My eyes narrow. Beyond the overhang, Scourge growls. “Who? Who kissed you?”

“Why?”

“Because if he’s emerging as an Alpha, I will fight him to the death. If he’s a Beta or Omega, I will make him beg for mercy. And if he’s human, I’ll hurl him from my dragon.”

“We can’t know because I have no idea where he is. He’s disappeared along with the rest of my village.”

I push a hand through my hair. Of course. Yet another reason to break through that barrier. I want to look the man in the eyes who dared kiss my Omega.
