She presses for more information, her questions about Brian’s life rushing like a waterfall but I dissuade her, my own excitement for passing this first roadblock rubbing off onto her.

“Let’s go tell your father and sister,” she says at last, her smile real this time.

“Just give me a few minutes, okay? Brian is waiting inside with our luggage. We’ll get settled and come meet you at the restaurant.”

“Perfect, perfect, we’ll wait for you.”

She leads me inside, the beautiful palm trees have been replaced with tropical plants—bamboo along the glass side of the room, orchids on the reception desk, and large pots with big-leaf plants.

The reception area is bigger than my apartment, and the dark stone floor seems to accentuate its size even more. The desk is made of wood which is equally dark, as are the intricate details of the ceiling—small pillars descend from it at irregular lengths.

Mom gives me a quick kiss and tells me to hurry before she leaves. I head toward Brian who is leaning against the reception desk looking at something on his phone. Even at a distance, I can see him frowning and the deep wrinkles it causes.

“Is there something wrong with Daniel?” I ask without thinking.

He’s startled but his sheepish smile makes it clear it’s not an issue with his son. “No, just… Andrew sent me some more data. That’s for when we get back, though.”

I’m about to ask more but he places a finger on my lips. “Let’s see our room first.”

He’s right. I don’t want to know right now.

I get the key to our garden king suite, and we head outside. The pathway that leads to the beachfront suites is made of cobblestone, matching the earthly vibe of the place. I lead the way, scanning the numbers that are carved on each gate entrance.

“This is it,” I tell him when we reach the last one on the path. My sister made sure I had plenty of privacy, thank goodness.

Once I open the gate I’m met with a tiny house—just a room really—half-hidden among the trees. I unlock the door and turn around to admire the view.

“This is quite impressive,” I comment.

Brian leaves our suitcases inside and turns to look at the pool too. It’s almost a perfect square, guarded by a wall of trees, though I’m sure the view of the beach is undisturbed when swimming.

“It is,” he mutters.

I turn to him but he’s not enjoying the same view as me. He tears his eyes away from my ass and motions us inside.

Right, the suite.

I pass him, my arm brushing against his toned chest. “It’s a big bed, I don’t think we’ll have any issues.”

The room looks exactly like the photos Emily had shown me. All white, with turquoise curtains and pillows, and the king-size bed in the middle, taking up almost half the space.

The door clicks shut, and I feel Brian standing inches away from me. I can’t believe I’m still drawn to him like a magnet. Biting my lip, I decide to put the plan in motion, properly this time.

I take a deep breath and turn around, but his carefree expression and reassuring smile are gone. There’s only desire—lust. That twisted satisfaction I felt before is matched with my own need for him.

I hook my arms around his neck, pressing my body against his, feeling every bit of his tense muscles and throbbing cock. He doesn’t waste a second. Both hands roam up and down my back until one settles at the back of my neck, the other rubbing the small of my waist and down to my ass, on top of my jeans.

“You played your part well.” I want to sound indifferent, but my voice betrays how much I want this too.

“You haven’t seen anything yet,” he informs me.

Chapter Fourteen

Brian

ForhoursI’vebeentrying to decipher her expression, to understand the hot and cold signs she keeps giving me but, right now, there’s no doubt about what she wants.

I crush my lips against hers, hungry to taste her again, her sweet perfume combined with her own scent, vanquish any decision I’d made to not rush this thing with Carol. I take a step forward, then another, until we are at the foot of the bed.
