“You. I missed you.” It’s perhaps the most honest answer I’ve given her. I climb onto the bed and pull her feet so that she’s lying beneath me.

I go for a kiss, but she holds my face inches away from hers. “How much did you miss me?”

“Just let me show you,” I whisper.

Her hands are still in place, but there’s no pressure there. It feels more like she’s cupping my cheeks when I lean in.

The kiss is sweet and slow, both of us taking our time, enjoying every moment. Slowly, I lift the hem of her dress to enjoy the view. She licks her lips and puts her foot on my chest, toying with the first button. I start to undo them as she lowers her leg, resting it on top of my cock when I’m done. My jeans hinder the contact but I’m sure she can feel exactly how much I want her.

I take the shirt off and try to lean in again but this time she puts both feet on my chest, keeping me in place.

“You know what, Brian. Show me another time. I’m exhausted.” She yawns and looks at me with fake pity before straightening her dress and rolling to the other side, leaving me hanging for the second time today.

Chapter Fifteen

Carol

“IwishIhadtaken a picture of him last night.” The look on his face was priceless, and so was the sound of the door slamming when he went to the bathroom.

Rose laughs. “I can’t believe I’m missing out on this. To be honest, after all that back and forth I’d started to doubt that you had it in you.”

Well, to be honest, if he hadn’t left at that moment, if he had laid next to me stead, the night would have ended very differently. But I can hardly admit that to myself, let alone say it out loud.

I lean back, resting my body on the fluffy white pillows. There are several cabanas scattered on the beach, all with identical white curtains and enormous pillows. As much as I dreaded the wedding, I have to admit that Emily was right. This is perfect for the family, and I really needed the rest.

“Well, you’ll see it with your own eyes on Friday.”

“And the rest of the family?” she presses. I know it’s killing her to miss all the action, especially when she orchestrated it.

“They were not thrilled at first, but he’s charming enough,” I say with a sigh. I think of my parents and sister and cousins, all in the restaurant having breakfast. They seemed to overcome their doubts about him pretty fast—too fast to be honest. Something tells me the interrogation is not completely over. Another laugh is heard from the other side of the line. “What’s that about?”

“Nothing, Love. I just remember how that charm of his affects you.”

“That’s over for good,” I insist. There’s no point in mentioning that I hardly slept all night, or how I rushed out of the room before he woke up this morning. I even had breakfast alone, to avoid another family gathering with him. It feels too real. And I know I can’t allow myself to backtrack.

“What’s over?”

I jump up at the sound of his voice. Brian is standing a few feet away wearing a white t-shirt and dark jean shorts. His hair flies in the wind, those messy curls completely untamed.

“Did he hear you?” Rose’s laughter echoes in my ears even after I hang up.

“I don’t remember you eavesdropping.”

He shrugs as he sits next to me in the cabana.

“I don’t remember you being such a tease,” he counters.

“Looks like we’ve both changed.” I sit up straight and take in his features as he watches the waves lapping on the golden sand. I don’t think he heard much of my conversation with Rose.

A shiver of relief runs through my body. That he does see.

“Are you cold? Or am I causing that?”

I expected him to be angry after my little prank, but he seems to be in a great mood. Far better than me, in fact.

“Carol?”

Damn it, I’m staring. This is supposed to be my game, not his. Determined to take control of this again, I put my arm on his shoulder and lean in. “You are.”
