With a sigh, I pull the t-shirt over my head and let it drop on the floor, my silk panties following suit. The bathroom is not that big, but it does have a spacious enclosed shower with a waterfall shower head, and, in place of a door, there’s tempered glass that covers almost half of it. I turn on the water, slowly raising the temperature until it tingles my skin and washes away those nagging thoughts.

“Mind if I join you?” Brian’s husky voice breaks that little moment of peace.

“I don’t think you can handle this,” I pout. There’s enough steam between us and the glass divide is almost opaque so I’m pretty sure he can’t see me properly. Not that it changes much. He definitely saw me almost naked last night. And he has seen me naked plenty of times in the past.

“Too hot for me?” he asks, his footsteps drawing closer and stopping right in front of the opening. I press my back against the wall in a futile attempt to put some distance between us, the cascading water still drenching me completely. Brian pops his head inside, that familiar sly smile still etched on his face. His greedy eyes drop from mine to my breasts and hardened nipples, lingering there for a few seconds before moving down to my belly and between my thighs.

“Enjoying the view?” I ask, but he doesn’t respond, his eyes fixed on my pussy. I move just a bit to the side and his already hard cock quivers. The teasing brings me some satisfaction, but I have to admit it’d be better if he joined me. “I wouldn’t come any closer if I were you,” I warn him.

Brian bites his lip and takes one more step forward. His gray boxers are now sprinkled with water but there’s still a safe distance between us. He seems to ponder for a moment and then raises his head to look at me. “I think I’ll risk it.”

I shake my head as he extends his arm, but he ignores my warning. The scorching water hits his fingers, and he yelps in pain, stepping back and hitting the other side of the shower cabin. “You are boiling yourself,” he almost shouts.

“Does it look like it?” More confident, I turn around slowly, earning another lustful look, and then with a fake sigh, I say, “I think it would be better if you wait your turn.”

He nods slowly but doesn’t move, getting a kick from the view.

“Brian. Out. Now.” My words are firm but not as severe as I wanted them to sound. Still, he leaves, murmuring something I don’t catch, and I start going over all the reasons I’m doing this to myself so as not to ask him to come back.

Half an hour later—that’s how long it took for me to calm down—I head back to the bedroom. Brian is sitting on the bed, resting his arms on his knees, his phone in one hand. He’s typing fast and seems to be frowning.

“Is there something wrong?” I ask. He’s been gone for two days now, maybe his son—

“Nope. Everything’s fine.” He looks up at me and that shadow of worry disappears. “What’s the plan for today?” He leans back, bracing his hands on either side of the mattress, but his eyes are still fixed on me. Or should I say, they are fixed on the knot of my bathrobe.

“Don’t get any ideas.”

“Of course not,” Brian says with a playful tone.

No, this is definitely not going as planned. He’s the one enjoying himself and I’m torn every second he’s by my side.

I open my suitcase and pick out a simple dark blue dress, the same shade as my gown for today. That one, I’ll wear later, when it’s time for the ceremony. There’s still work to be done around here and there’s no way I’ll be dealing with the caterers in that one. “Was that about Daniel?” I gesture to his phone that’s under his hand.

He nods. “Sunny texted me about their schedule for the day. She’s got some wacky ideas in mind and I’m not sure I’ve convinced her not to go through with her plans.”

“Isn’t Mary there?” Brian had told me that it’s Mary who has the primary responsibility for Daniel. Sunny just helps out occasionally.

“She’s supposed to be, but I doubt anyone can deter Sunny once she has her mind set on something. Ever since we were little, she’d boss everyone around. Not much has changed since then.”

Huh. They’ve known each other since they were kids. I mean, I should have figured that out, since he already told me Mary helped his mother raise him. They are probably really close for him to just shrug this off when it comes to his son.

“So, what plans does she have?” I ask, trying to shoo away that strange twinge in my chest. There’s no reason to be jealous of her, even if there’s something there. Which there isn’t. He wouldn’t be here if he had any interest in her.

“She mentioned going to Coney Island. There’s an amusement park there and she promised Daniel they’d spend the day there. But…I don’t know.” His face twitches. “I don’t want them to go alone. So, I asked Andrew to go with them.”

“You two are really close, aren’t you?” Given the financial resources his friend seems to have, it’s surprising that he’d help with something so mundane. “And for you to want to help him with his work.”

“I told you; he’s supported me for years. And I’m sure his wife and kids won’t mind going too. As for the work, that’s for next week. Let’s forget it, alright?”

Andrew is a family man. Good to know. And it’s a relief that Daniel will be around so many people. Him being absent from his father because of my stupid plan is something that has been a constant worry in the back of my mind.

Brian stands up and moves toward me, but I raise a hand to stop him. “By next week, I might have changed my mind about the project,” I tease.

He raises an eyebrow. “When was the last time you turned down a challenge?”

Never. Not to mention that I’ll be unemployed in a few days and will actually need the money.

Brian doesn’t wait for an answer. He pushes my hand down and plants a soft kiss on my cheek before heading to the bathroom. I stay still until I hear the running water and then slip my dress on and head outside. Maybe I’m getting a bit paranoid about this whole thing with the finances. Brian has created a circle of friends to compensate for his lonely childhood and I’m nitpicking everything he says and does—all this stress has taken its toll on me.
