She smiles, the brightest, happiest smile I’ve ever seen on her blowing me a kiss. Her hair is slightly pulled back, the dark waves moving in the breeze, and the airy fabric of her dress makes her look almost ethereal. It has a V-neck with an intricate pattern, leaving her back and shoulders bare, and a deep slit that shows off her long, slender legs.

Carol locks eyes with mine and takes the first step down the aisle. Her smile grows bigger with every step, her pace steady and certain. She knows I love her, and she loves me too. Right before George hands her over to me, she stops for a kiss from Daniel who decides to step up and accompany her too for the rest of the way.

Then, it’s just the two of us. I know Andrew and Rose are right here, too, but once I take her hand in mine, no one else exists.

We exchange our vows—promises of love, care and honesty above all else—when finally exchange our rings.

“I love you,” I whisper when I’m finally able to kiss her.

“I love you too,” Carol murmurs against my lips.

We part briefly for our guests to congratulate us, each hug as tight and loving as possible. Soon, there are tables set in a circle so that we can all see and talk to each other as we eat, turning the reception into a cozy family gathering.

But first, there’s the dance.

Carol’s arms wrap around my neck and mine settle on the small of her back, pulling her close to me, her sweet perfume, together with the salty smell of the sea, tempting me to start planting small kisses all over her.

“I still can’t believe we got married.” She looks at the golden band on her finger and then back at me. “After all these years…it feels like a dream.”

“I know. But we are here now. Together, at last.”

It took a lot of effort to let go of past mistakes and deep-rooted beliefs, but Carol and I managed to do it. Those six years we lost seem insignificant right now. We’ve found each other again, we’ve surrounded ourselves with people we love and love us back. Most importantly, we’ve created our own little family which we hope will grow soon.

“Happy?” I ask.

Carol looks at me, her eyes misty and glistening, and stands on her toes to kiss me on the lips.

“More than you can imagine.”

The End!
