"Don't worry, Buddy. I've got this," I tell him as I move toward the door to let Felicity in.

I hadn't exactly pictured what Felicity would wear, but there's no way I had pictured her in a beautiful blue sundress that, for the first time, exposes her long, toned legs. She has always favored trousers over skirts, I have never been afforded this view.

Her hair is also not in the low chignon she loves to keep it in. Right now, her hair falls on both side of her shoulders, in a long, luxurious mane of lush brown hair.

"Hi," she smiles a little awkwardly.

Maybe I had stared for far too long.

"Hello, Felicity. Please, come in."

As she steps into the room, I decide that now is the time to show Eli the soft-hearted guest I had invited over. So, I lean toward an unsuspecting Felicity, whose eyes widen when she notices my movement. I beg her with my eyes to go along, but Felicity remains ramrod straight, eyes wide, as I draw close enough to brush my lips against her cheeks, inhaling her wondrous scent. Caramel.

"Thank you for coming," I say, taking her hands in mine and leading her toward the sofa.

Eli, who had been watching the exchange, is now sporting a deep frown that is hard to miss.

With my hands still holding Felicity's soft and more slender ones, I begin to make introductions.

"Hey Buddy, this is Felicity, my girlfriend."

I hesitate slightly when I look at Felicity, whose cheeks are a deep red and her eyes appear almost unfocused.

"Babe," I begin to say, almost swallowing my tongue when Felicity winces.

That didn't sound natural at all.

Good thing we are performing our first act in front of a ten-year-old and not my father, who had lived long enough to tell bad acting from good.

"It's really nice to meet you, Eli," Felicity says, her voice cheery and warm.

She stretches out a hand for a handshake, but Eli scoffs at the stretched hand and gets up.

"Eli," I call after the young boy, who whirls around; his eyes, the same color as mine, full of anger.

"This is what you wanted, isn't it? You wanted Mom to leave so you could bring someone else."

"Eli," I say, beginning to make my way toward the boy who begins to run up the stairs.

"Stay away from me!"

I am about to make my way up the stairs when Felicity's voice stops me in my tracks.

"You should let him cool off. Kids are like that."

I stop and turn around to gaze at her. She doesn't look mad at Eli's behavior, which is something that I am glad about.

"I'm sorry about that," I begin to say.

"It's all right. I have younger siblings. Your son reminds me of them," Felicity says.

"We should eat," I sigh.

I had not envisioned that Eli would take the appearance of another woman this hard, but faking a relationship with Felicity is something I am determined to go through with.

"How about we talk first?" Felicity says in that low voice that she uses when she is about to say something really serious.

I take my seat on the couch and invite her to join me as well.
