"I could never do that."

But I am actually doing that. Only that, in this case, Felicity is well aware that she is being strung along. But Father doesn’t have to know. He never will.

"Great… because integrity really does matter."

I swallow a ball of guilt at my father's words. I begin to look around my dimly lit room, trying to find ways to end this conversation that feels like it has gone on for far too long.

"It does, doesn't it?" I fake a yawn.

"Either you’ve had a long day, or you're simply tired of this conversation. Which one is it?" Father questions.

I chuckle.

“It's the former, Father."

I really did have a long day, with Felicity's visit and the fight with Eli.

"You should rest," he yawns. "Suddenly, I'm every bit as tired as you are."

When we say goodbye, I slide into bed, I wonder what Felicity will think about coming with me to dinner at my parents' house.

Well, a little too anxious about what her answer would be, I find myself picking up my cell phone and calling her number before I can talk myself out of it.

I should have waited till tomorrow to tell her about it. I would have hung up if Felicity's voice weren't already filtering through the speakers, low and steady, making me feel like she was right beside me, murmuring the customary response into my ear.

"Hello."

"Felicity," I breathe.

"Declan?" she murmurs. Her voice is low, soft, and sultry, causing me to close my eyes and keep them that way.

"Have I called at a bad time?"

"No," she replies and then clears her throat. "You haven't caught me at a bad time. I just got off the phone with my family."

"Okay. I just got off the phone with my father as well."

There is a pause on the other end, I can tell that Felicity is thinking about what I have just told her, probably putting two and two together.

"Does he know?" Her question finally comes.

"He knows now."

"How did he take the news?" she asks, sounding anxious.

"Better than I'd expected. Except that he was suspicious that I could be trying to string some poor woman along."

"Oh, if he knew," Felicity comments with a chuckle, and I let out a laugh.

I’m glad that she's adjusted well to this situation and is no longer repulsed by the idea of lying to my father.

"I thought it would be a good idea to tell you now so you can better prepare. He wants us to come to dinner."

"Wow," Felicity says. "He really does not waste time, does he?"

"You know him too well," I say. "Are you okay with having dinner with my parents this Friday?"

"Of course," Felicity is quiet for a couple of seconds before adding, "but what about Eli?"
