I pat his head gently, happy that he's admitting his mistake.

"It's okay. I love you too, and I'll let Ms. Goleman know."

By the time I reverse into my parking space at the office, it's already fifteen minutes after nine. Martin hasn't called. Maybe the person didn't show up. I check the parked cars for Felicity's red Toyota Camry. It's in its usual spot, three cars down from mine. I make a mental note to ask her out to lunch. I haven't forgotten my promise to her about sampling different meals across restaurants in the city. If she wishes to extend it to other states, I'm all in.

"I was just about to call 911 to report a missing person." Jason quips the second I walk into my office. He's standing by the window with a cup of coffee in his right hand and a newspaper in the other.

I stifle a groan and walk across the floor to my desk. After settling in and taking my sweet time to turn on my computer and input the password, Martin walks in.

"Here is your coffee, Mr. Gray, Black. I moved your meeting with HR from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. And here is your schedule for today."

Oh.

As if Jason can overhear Martin's side of the conversation, he shoots me a smug grin and tips the cup in my direction. I scowl and slowly avert my gaze.

"Thank you, Martin," I say as he moves out of the door.

Jason drops a file on my desk and leans his elbows on the back of the chair opposite my desk.

"Don't fret, I'm not going to dig too deep into your private life. I just need to know the basics. We can talk about your new flame over drinks after you've won this case."

He sounds optimistic. Relief floods through me.

"Amelia is wrong about me, Jason. I need her to understand that."

Jason nods, understanding flickers in his eyes.

"Of course."

I pick up the file and thumb through it. Amelia has submitted detailed information to bolster her points. Felicity said Amelia was right to have doubts. I won't argue that fact, but why in God's name is Amelia trying so hard to punish me?

"When is the hearing?"

"We've not fixed a date yet. I wanted to talk to you first."

I sigh.

"Make it as fast as possible. I don't want to upset Eli."

"Roger that."

Chapter Fifteen

Declan

Catcallsfromthepeoplemilling about in the long hallways prompt me to glance away from Ben, who is giving me a rundown of what we've achieved so far and how much more we need to hit the month's target.

Felicity Goleman. She's in one of her signature pantsuits, the black pants skim her stunning figure. Her hair is pulled back in a neat ponytail today, leaving the shiny curls to dangle behind her; the style accentuates her high cheekbones. My eyes are drawn to her barely visible cleavage, but then the size of her breasts, confined in the suit, drives my imagination wild.

"Mr. Gray, your father is on line one. He says it's urgent." Martin says from the doorway, cutting off my thought, which is a welcomed distraction as my shirt is beginning to get tight and my lung has ceased to function.

I turn to Ben.

"Great job, Ben. Send everything to my email, all right?"

"Will do, Mr. Gray."

Pushing away from the desk, I cradle the phone against my ear as Dad's voice booms through the mouthpiece.
