“The Director, sir.”

Hmm. Interesting. Guess they didn’t want any more black eyes on the agency.

“Understood.” He held out his hand and shook the agent’s. “Thank you and your men for their work today. Me and Anne greatly appreciate it.”

“Yes, sir.”

Blane headed back to his seat, glad to see that Anne was still asleep. She needed her rest.

He woke her shortly before they landed and the heavy-lidded look in her eyes made him want to peel her clothes off and take her to bed.

He’d had Linda arrange a car to take them back to his house and it was waiting when they touched down. He hustled Anne into it and within minutes they were on the freeway to Georgetown.

“I lost my sunglasses,” Anne randomly remarked.

“I’ll buy you ten more pairs.”

She gave him a look. “Not the point. Just…what an awful day. And it started so well. The crowd was amazing.”

“They’ve tripled the agents for traveling. Nothing like that is ever going to happen again.”

Anne leaned back against the seat with a sigh. “I trust you.”

Blane’s heart turned over in his chest.

They arrived home and Daniel had prepared dinner for them. Anne ate as though famished, making all the yummy noises and praising Daniel, who actually blushed. Blane gave him a raised eyebrow and Daniel shrugged abashedly.

He took Anne upstairs after dinner. She’d yawned repeatedly.

“Let me draw you a bath,” he offered.

“That would be lovely.”

Blane started the water and fetched a robe and fresh towels for her. Daniel had already stocked the bathroom with women’s scents in addition to his. He’d have to remember to thank him.

Anne followed him into the bathroom and stripped off her dress without any self-consciousness. Blane stared. He couldn’t help himself.

Daniel had also stocked the bathroom with womanly things like a hairbrush and hair ties. Anne grabbed one and piled her hair on top of her head. Blane got hard just watching her body move. She wore a nude bra and panties that seemed to blend with her skin.

Forcing his thoughts away from where they seemed destined to go, he watched as she finished undressing and helped her into the tub.

“Do you need someone to wash your back?”

She laughed lightly, leaning back in the tub. The rosy tips of her nipples peaked through the bubbles, making his mouth water.

He cleared his throat. “I’ll be back to help you out.” A cold shower seemed to be in order.

Fifteen minutes later, he’d showered and thrown on some pajama pants and returned to Anne. Who was half asleep in the steaming tub.

“Ready to get out, my love?”

She nodded and Blane helped her out, carefully drying her off and placing gentle kisses along her body all the way up to her mouth.

“I need you,” she whispered.

Oh, thank God.
