“Here?” I asked.

“Yes. My favorite place.”

I hugged him eagerly. “It is my favorite place as well.”

“Wait,” he said as he set me on my feet and vanished. He returned in half a second with a blanket on his arm. It was a full moon. I could see even the tiny silvery details reflecting on his bare beauty. “I thought you would prefer something underneath you.” He spread the blanket next to the oak tree, swept me off my feet, and laid me on top of it.

I could’ve done so on my own, but I saw him indulge in his superior powers. Not a moment later, Gabriel lay in my most personal space and found his way inside me.

“I love you, Petra,” said Gabriel.

“I love you, Gabriel,” I whispered.

At the sound of my words, Gabriel lost all sense of control. His thrusts became frenzied, ferocious, and wildly delectable. Once more, I lost myself in him. A place where I felt safe to experience a universe of pleasure. A universe of excitement, passion, and love. An arousal hidden so deep within me only he could unearth it. I surrendered to everything he gave, and he didn’t disappoint. The thrusts increased to an unusual speed which threw me into a stratosphere of bliss.

There was no way I could contain my spasmatic screams. The delayed gratification worked its magic to a point where I felt the climax would never end. A tsunami-sized wave of pleasure consumed me into oblivion. Gabriel’s peek followed as he held me tight in an embrace.

When reality hit, I realized I was the only one panting. Gabriel didn’t even sweat unless you considered the glimmer of his smooth skin sweating. He didn’t even pay attention to my rattled state. He simply showered me with soft pecks all over my face.

In the middle of planning for a trip to the gym in the near future, I fell asleep. I only heard the words: “Sleep, my love. Sleep.”

Chapter 8

The following morning, I woke up in our bedroom. Gabriel was nowhere to be seen. He dressed me in a white nightgown and let me sleep for who knows how many hours. I remembered yesterday. The vampire venom worked. I indeed forgot all our problems. But today, I remembered everything once more, and my heart broke again. I remembered all the painful experiences Gabriel went through. Such ordeals didn’t end in a day or in centuries. And suddenly I felt very sad. I heard the door creaking. At first, I thought it was Gabriel, but I only saw a short movement. When I rose to see who it was, I was welcomed by the incredibly heavy Shadow licking my face.

“How I missed you, sweet boy,” I said as I petted and hugged him. “Thank you for taking care of Gabriel on his worst days. I don’t know how he would’ve survived without you.”

“I see Shadow has found a new favorite being.” Gabriel entered the bedroom, holding a cup of coffee.

“The feeling is mutual,” I said with a smile tinged with sadness.

“That’s news to me,” Gabriel said, oblivious to the change in my mood. He handed me my coffee and sat beside me. “How are you feeling, my love?” He kissed my cheek.

I couldn’t answer, so I chose to sip some coffee. Only later I noticed a tear falling in the cup.

“What’s wrong, my love? Are you hurt?” Gabriel asked.

I placed the cup on the nightstand. “No, I’m okay,” I said.

“Then what happened? Why are you crying?”

“Um. I need to talk to you. But I’m not sure it is safe to speak here.”

He lifted me, went supersonic to our meadow next to the oak tree, and sat me on the same blanket from yesterday.

“No one will bother us here. Everyone is at the castle and won’t be able to hear us. You can speak freely. Tell me what bothers you,” Gabriel said, looking genuinely alarmed.

But I lost all my words. How could I tell him? Where would I even start? All of it was too painful to put into words.

I lowered my head and whispered, “I don’t know how.”

“Start from the easiest part.” He smiled.

“I…I know.” I swallowed the knot in my throat.

“You know?” Gabriel furrowed his brows. “You know what?”

“Everything.”
