“You might laugh, but I don’t intend to stop. I need Kira, Troy, and your help with developing a plan. What do you say?” I asked.

“I must be out of my mind to agree with you, but there’s also nothing to lose. I do not wish to spend an eternity without you and Athena. Fighting is the only option.”

“Sire,” a male voice resounded. I raised my head to discover Troy. “Excuse the impertinent intrusion, but we have an issue that needs immediate action.”

“What is it, Troy?” Gabriel rose to a seated position.

“We are being attacked on all flanks. They’re equipped with heavy artillery and tanks.”

“Who is it?” Gabriel stood up.

“It’s the Americans, Your Majesty.”

Chapter 9

"Isaw a couple of black SUVs after I exited the seer’s building. They must’ve followed me,” I said.

“They sent a message to surrender as they have enough intel on how to defeat you, Sire,” Troy said.

“It must’ve been my professor, Mr. Iglesias. But I didn’t think he would go to such lengths to get to you.”

“What did you tell him?” Gabriel asked, trying to keep his cool.

“Only that silver can slow you down. I’m sorry, I didn’t know.”

“Do not fret, Milady. Whatever weapons they hold will not be enough to defeat me. But first, we must assure your safety. Troy, please take Milady to the upstairs hideout,” Gabriel said.

“I wish to be protected by Kira. Troy should join you, not me.”

Both men looked at me, confused about what to do next.

“Troy, summon Kira to our castle. We will deal with the consequences later,” Gabriel said.

“But Sire, she is…”

“Do as I say. At the moment, there are other burning matters we must attend to.”

“Very well, Your Majesty.”

“Milady, even if my soldiers are prepared to take on any adversary and Kira will be by your side shortly, you still must rush inside the castle. You are at much greater risk than any of us.”

He swept me off my feet, and in a blink of an eye, we were in his study. Shadow was sleeping in his bed. “Stay here for now. Lock the door. If you hear any unusual sounds run to the hidden passage,” he said.

I nodded, to which he responded with an encouraging hug. Then he turned to his four-legged companion and said, “Come, Shadow. There’s a battle we must win.”

After Gabriel and Shadow left, I remained to gnaw my nails and pace like a caged animal. What were they doing there? Was Gabriel safe? I mean, he was the strongest vampire to exist. I should expect him to be fine and worry about these Special Forces people or whomever they were. But what if they figured out a way to capture him? I wouldn’t put past these people to inject millions only to get a piece of Gabriel.

I sat at the wooden desk and blushed, remembering last night’s antics. It felt so good to hide in Gabriel’s embrace once more, but others kept interfering with their prophecies, curses, and governmental experiments. We couldn’t take a breather before some new entity decided they wanted a piece of us, a piece of our love. Well, they had another thing coming. I didn’t scrub castle floors, confront werewolves, dance with nymphs, or fight a Hungarian spy for nothing. And that only happened in the past. Delving into the present required another book to write it. At least I knew the truth. Many things could be done right when the seed of truth started germinating. Despite all our ordeals, I knew one thing, we had to keep on fighting. Since confronting the obstacles of life, even one as long as five hundred years meant there was still hope for a future.

A knock resounded at the door. I panicked and hid underneath the desk.

“Milady, it’s me,” said a sing-songy male voice.

Who could it be? Wasn’t Kira supposed to be the only one to join me?

“Milady, open up. It is your professor,” the male voice said.

What? Was it Mr. Iglesias? Behind the wooden barriers between us, it was impossible to distinguish his voice.
