“What do you think?” I asked.

“About which part?” Eric asked.

“How do you feel about what Zoey said? Do you believe her? Should we? What do you want to do about it? Can we do anything about it?” I asked.

“Dude, slow down. One question at a time,” Logan said.

“It’s the closest thing we have to a confession. We’re getting closer to catching this asshole,” I said.

“And we’re going to get him,” Sean said as he walked in.

“Thanks for joining us,” Eric said as he stood to shake Sean’s hand.

“We didn’t have a meeting scheduled,” Logan said.

Eric glared at Logan like he was ridiculous to think that he didn’t know we would all end up in his office that morning. Logan nodded and moved to give Sean his seat.

“So, what did Zoey tell you?” Sean asked.

“She had a potential client come into her office, Project Reform, who said they were in a holding cell with Denton, and he made a confession,” Logan said.

“What type of confession?” Sean asked.

“Her client, Mr Blackwell—” Logan began.

“Is that his real name?” Sean asked.

“No idea. Does it matter?” I asked.

“If we are going to run a background check on the guy, it would be best to have his full name.”

“His name is apparently Robert Blackwell. He would have been arrested the same time Denton was for voyeurism,” I said.

“Good, that gives me a place to start,” Sean said as he wrote down the information.

“Denton said he had found the perfect woman, followed her, and went up to talk to her. When she rebuffed his advances, he killed the bitch. Though Zoey didn’t use the word bitch, it was implied.”

“Did Mr. Blackwell say he was talking about Lauren?” Sean asked.

“Yes, even said Denton confessed to stabbing her in the back,” I said.

“That was going to be my next question,” Sean stated.

“It’s proof he wasn’t just making it up. No one knew that but a few people.”

“You’re offering a lot of money for any information. It has already brought a few crazies out; this might be another one.”

“How?” Logan asked.

“Could be a leak in the NYPD, someone who’s looking for a quick way to get money and has a grudge against the military or people who own bars? There could be any number of reasons.”

“Thanks for bursting my bubble,” Eric said.

“I told you I would always be realistic and never lie to you. I want you to be prepared that this could be some elaborate scheme to try and fuck with you or to get the reward money.”

“Just when I was starting to have faith in humanity again,” Logan said.

“Maybe it’s not. We don’t know. You pay me to look at all sides of this. I’m just doing my job. I could be wrong, and I really hope that I am. I’ll look into Robert Blackwell and see what I can find out about him. I’ll start with finding out if he was even in a holding cell with Denton, and then we can go from there.”
