He was still inside her, and she wrapped her legs around him as she lay her head on his chest.

His arms snaked around her, holding her closer. She smiled, never wanting the moment to end.

THIRTEEN

DECLAN

He stood behind Taryn in the library. She hummed as she sat reading a book of potions, her eyes moving quickly over the text. He couldn't help but smile, watching her.

He'd felt a little more relaxed since their night together. He also thought they had gotten closer. The following morning, he'd just lay there and watched her.

After their heated moment in the garden, he took her back to his room, and they fell into bed. He held her in his arms until she'd drifted off to sleep.

He enjoyed seeing her sleep so peacefully and watching the sun fall over her skin the next morning. He wanted to burn the image of her into his brain. He wanted to wake up to her each and every morning.

He remembered running his finger over her cheek and watching her eyes flutter open. She'd smiled at him, her hand reaching up, wrapping her fingers around his. And they just looked at each other, allowing the time to tick by like the world didn't matter.

He exhaled, walking farther into the room. She looked up at the sound, and she turned, nearly falling out of the chair she lounged in. She dropped her book and fumbled to pick it up. "Declan, I didn't hear you come in."

"That's because I didn't want you to," he replied softly, walking closer to her. He grabbed the book and handed it to her. She blushed, taking it from him.

"Why's that?" she asked, giving him a quizzical expression.

"You were so peaceful," he said, giving her a kiss on her forehead. "And I didn't want to disturb you."

She chewed on her bottom lip before she slipped back into her chair. "You can disturb me. We are going to be married, after all."

He smiled at her. He wanted to hold her and have his way with her, but he had a long day ahead of him. He needed to get things done, and that meant leaving her.

"I'll see you later today," he said, planting another kiss on her forehead.

She scowled at him. "You're leaving again? I thought we were going to have some time together."

He wanted to tell her what he was worried about. He wanted to inform her about his fears and his concern for her safety, but he was unsure of how she'd react.

He didn't want her to worry, and he had a feeling if he told her, she would. He just needed to keep it to himself a little longer until they figured out who was responsible for the fire. And the notes.

"Just a lot going on. I'll be back later tonight, and we can spend time together. If you need me that badly, I can wait," he said, wiggling his eyebrows at her.

She raised an eyebrow at him. "Not that, Declan. I mean, just being together. I like the time we sit and talk."

He knew what she meant, but he liked to tease her. He liked to see the different expressions she made. And he looked forward to getting back to her.

He gave her another kiss. "I'll return, and you won't even know I was gone. With your sisters coming and helping you plan for the party, you'll have so much going on anyway."

"I know. I just like having this time with you. I'll miss you."

"I know," he said, giving her another kiss before he slipped out and headed down the hallway.

He found his beta, William, waiting. They were heading to the medical center to check how things were going and see if anyone was standing around with burn injuries.

"Morning, sir. How was your evening?"

He couldn't help but smile. The evenings were his favorite because he had Taryn to himself. They were open and honest with each other, and he loved the connection.

His wolf loved the physical part of it as well. He got Taryn how he wanted her, and she was more than willing.

"Great. And you?" he asked as they continued down the hallway. They nodded at a few guards walking by.
