The wolf inside him growled.

No harm will come to her. She is your mate.

Those words came from the wolf, and Declan’s resolve strengthened.

No one would harm Taryn as long as he was alive.

“You are so good to me,” Taryn told him as she gently pulled back from the hug. “I didn’t want to see those notes, to be quite honest. You stood firm and protected me. There would be no good in reading those notes, and it would not bring us closer to solving this issue.”

“You are wise, my love,” he told her.

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” she asked.

“You know I am,” he answered.

“We’re about to come up with a plan to find out who could be doing this.”

“Yep. And the first step is really simple,” he told her. “Step one is to give the stalker enough room to hang themselves. Give them wiggle room to make mistakes.”

Taryn had been right. They did come up with a damn fine plan to find out who was doing this stalking, notes, and fire starting.

When they finished planning, she handed him the tracker, and he crushed it into fine pieces of nothingness, which is exactly what the wolf was going to do with the stalker when Declan finally cornered them.

SIXTEEN

TARYN

How could this be happening?

What is the point of this?

Who would want to hurt me?

Taryn paced the halls, her mind a mess. Declan was going to keep her safe, but that didn't mean the threat didn't scare her.

She was, in fact, terrified.

But I can never tell Declan how afraid I truly am. Because then his overprotectiveness will get out of control.

She was going to try to stand strong, but the thought of being targeted made her stomach twist painfully with anxiety.

What if he isn’t here to protect me?

She gasped as the air was twisted out of her. Her anxiety threatened to overwhelm her as she thought about Declan not being around to save her.

She stopped in the library to find it empty of her sisters and Hanna. She stiffened when a guard gave her a smile. "They moved everything to the theater room. They said something about wine and a movie."

Her shoulders relaxed, and she gave the guard a smile before she turned and headed back down the hallway. She went straight to the theater. When she arrived there, she found that only Hanna and Addison were sitting in large chairs, laughing together. She felt comfort between them and liked that they were getting along so well.

Hanna looked at her, giving her a soft smile. "So? Was my brother spying on you? Did you beat his ass and chew him out?"

She shook her head, walking over to them. She threw herself into a chair and pulled the pillow into her lap. She swallowed as she tried to figure out how she was going to tell them someone was after her. That someone was stalking her.

How could one possibly break that kind of news?

Just rip the bandage off.

Addison frowned at her, seeing the look on her face. "What's wrong?"
